Overview:
We are seeking a strategic and operationally excellent Regional Director of Fleet Operations to lead and scale autonomous vehicle (AV) fleet operations across California. This leader will drive efficient fleet utilization, vehicle readiness, charging infrastructure, and yard management while embedding safety and quality as non-negotiable priorities. The ideal candidate brings a strong analytical mindset, exceptional client-facing experience, and a proven track record of managing large, multi-level operational teams.

Key Responsibilities:
Fleet Operations & Utilization
+ Lead end-to-end AV fleet operations, ensuring optimal asset utilization, availability, and deployment performance.
+ Establish operational KPIs and dashboards to track efficiency, downtime, readiness, and throughput.
+ Partner with internal product teams to integrate field insights to maximize operational performance
Vehicle Prep, Quality & Safety
+ Oversee comprehensive vehicle prep processes including inspection, cleaning, calibration, and pre-deployment QA checks.
+ Implement robust quality assurance programs to ensure vehicles meet AV safety and performance standards.
+ Champion a safety-first culture, enforcing rigorous SOPs, compliance protocols, and safety training at all levels.
+ Drive continuous improvement through root cause analysis, incident tracking, and cross-functional safety reviews.
Charging Infrastructure & Yard Operations
+ Manage daily staffing, assignments and capacity planning across multiple sites
+ Forecast infrastructure needs in alignment with growth and vehicle demand cycles.
+ Oversee efficient vehicle flow through yards, including parking, staging, dispatch, and space utilization.
+ Ensure all yard/depot operations prioritize safety, compliance, and incident-free execution.
Client Engagement & Strategic Growth
+ Serve as the regional point of contact for key clients, providing transparency into operational performance, safety metrics, and service quality.
+ Develop client-facing materials and reports, translating data into actionable insights.
+ Identify and lead business growth opportunities, expansion plans, and market scaling efforts.
People Leadership & Organizational Development
+ Manage a team of 1,000+ FTEs across multiple levels and sites, including hourly associates, supervisors, and senior managers.
+ Foster a high-performance culture grounded in safety, accountability, continuous learning, and operational excellence.
+ Lead organizational design, workforce planning, and succession strategies to support scalable growth.
Data, Analytics & Reporting
+ Build and lead regional operational dashboards, analytics frameworks, and performance reviews.
+ Track and report quality, safety, and utilization metrics with weekly, monthly, and quarterly business reviews (QBRs).
Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities (KSAs):
+ Exceptional organizational and program management skills and traits, including but not limited to planning and resource management, timeline estimation, task management and issue tracking, and status reporting
+ Excellent written and oral business communication skills
+ Ability to communicate and work collaboratively with a variety of people and levels, including executive leadership team, peers, managers, and staff
+ Strategic skills, able to solve complex problems and develop creative solutions with high attention to details and execution
+ Strong analytical skills with a data-driven approach to continuous improvement and implementation
+ Proficiency in Excel, with the ability to create, analyze, and interpret data effectively.
+ Familiarity with the full suite of Microsoft Office products (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.).
+ Working knowledge of Google Workspace (formerly G Suite) applications, including Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Drive.
+ Experience in presenting to senior leadership - lead client meetings, discussions, strategies and outcomes
+ Travel up to 75%
Required Qualifications:
+ 10+ years of experience in fleet operations, logistics, mobility services, or AV/EV sectors.
+ Proven experience leading large, distributed teams (500–1,000+ FTEs) across diverse roles.
+ Demonstrated success in managing safety, quality control, and regulatory compliance.
+ Strong client-facing communication skills with the ability to present data, insights, and recommendations.
+ Analytical thinker with deep experience in KPI tracking, operational reporting, and continuous improvement programs.
+ Familiarity with AV, electric vehicles, robotics, or automated yard systems strongly preferred.
Preferred Qualifications:
+ Experience scaling operations in a startup or rapidly growing tech environment.
+ MBA or advanced degree in Operations, Engineering, or Business a plus.
Physical Requirements:
+ Occasional standing, walking, and sitting.
+ Long periods of sitting.
+ Use hands to finger; handle or feel; and talk or hear; climb stairs and/or ladders.
Pre-Employment Requirements:
+ All Transdev employees must satisfactorily complete a pre-employment drug screen and background check. Safety Sensitive Positions will also be subject to a physical screening
