JOB DESCRIPTION
Position Title: Winder Job Code: HRJD - 004
Department: Motor Shop FLSA Status: Hourly / Non-exempt
Supervisor: Shop Supervisor
GENERAL SUMMARY: Duties will include data collection and rewinding of AC / DC electric motors, generators, armatures, rotors, transformers, yoders, magnet and brake coils and related electrical components. Brazing, soldering and welding of copper, aluminum, steel, etc. will be required. Employee will be expected to verify applicable rewinds by core loss, hi pot, phase balance, rotational direction, meg-ohm etc. testing. All pre and post testing shall be correctly documented. Will assist other departments with skilled or non skilled duties as directed by the Supervisor or Manager. Will be responsible and accountable for following all safety policies and safety related practices.
JOB FUNCTIONS:
Electro Mechanical Equipment Identification and External Data Collection and Diagnosis.
• Responsible for identifying the type of equipment needing repair.
o AC Motors
o DC Motors, generators
o Armatures
o Transformers
o Yoders
o Coils
o Other equipment as assigned
Determine and document correct external data associated with the equipment or winding.
Diagnose and or test existing equipment for malfunctions, failures or damage if present.
• Ability to use diagnostic equipment such as meggar, hi pot, AC or DC test panels or related equipment.
Dismantle, Internal Data Collection.
• Ability to disassemble identified equipment.
• Correct cut and burn of electrical winding.
• Identify and document internal winding data.
• Convert internal winding data as applicable per EASA guidelines.
• Correct removal of winding from core or bobbin.
Core Testing and Repair.
• Utilizing available core test equipment and programs to determine core viability and proper heat
• dispersion.
• Ability to use proper tools to repair or modify existing core to meet test criteria.
• Experience necessary to undertake and complete a full or partial core re-stack.
Insulating and Rewinding and Connecting.
• Responsible for correct insulation of core and component parts applicable to the equipment
Insulation Classification.
• Ability to correctly size and wind coils or wire applicable to insulated equipment.
• Responsible for correct wire insertion, wedging, tying of winding or wire.
• Utilizing correct connection sequence including equipment necessary for final soldering, brazing
• or welding of internal coil leads to exterior leads.
• Ability to tie and proof end clearance of finished winding.
Testing and Varnish Application.
• Responsible for final electrical, mechanical or quality testing of winding, insulation and
• connections including documentation of all results.
• Upon successful post winding test procedure apply the necessary fit, thread and identification
• coating to allow the correct insulating varnish application.
• Dip and bake of winding.
• Clean up of coated fits, threads and identification plates of dip and baked winding.
• Final testing and documentation if applicable.
All other duties as assigned to support Company Goals.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent. A Certificate or Associates Degree in an electrical / mechanical related field preferred.
• Work Experience: A minimum of 1 to 3 years' experience in electrical / mechanical repair or servicing or completion of an accredited EASA or military training program.
• Skills & Abilities: Ability to work independently or as part of a team as applicable. Requires diagnostic trouble shooting, disassembly, measurement, data collection, failure analysis, repair, re-assembly, testing and safety abilities at a career skilled tradesman level. Requires oral and written skills to effectively communicate with co-workers, shop staff, supervisors and managers. Must be able to perform essential functions of job, with or without reasonable accommodations.
