Communications Publications Design Specialist (HEOa)- Office of Communications and Marketing
POSITION DETAILS
The Office of Communications and Marketing is responsible for developing and disseminating the official messages of Hunter College to internal and external audiences, and for gathering the most news-worthy stories from around campus.
The Communications Publications Design Specialist position reports to the AVP of Communications and Marketing.
Responsibilities:
- Creates, designs, and updates digital signage across campus to communicate timely announcements, events, and campus-wide alerts.
- Crafts vibrant and engaging social media visuals that capture the college’s spirit and amplify its messaging, inspiring connection and engagement across digital platforms.
- Designs, maintains, and updates web pages on the college’s website, ensuring content is visually appealing, accessible, and current.
- Builds and manages email newsletter campaigns to effectively communicate with internal and external audiences.
- Produces high-quality print signage, forms, posters, brochures, and other collateral materials that support college initiatives.
- Collaborates with departmental staff to understand communication needs and translate them into innovative design solutions.
- Upholds consistency of visual branding across all digital and print platforms.
- Manages multiple projects simultaneously, adhering to deadlines, budgets, and quality standards.
- Coordinates with external vendors and print shops to produce physical materials, ensuring specifications and deadlines are met.
- Assists in developing and implementing workflows, standards, and best practices for design and production processes.
- Supports the integration of multimedia elements into digital communications, working with IT and media teams as needed.
- Maintains inventory of design equipment and supplies, coordinating maintenance and upgrades to ensure operational efficiency.
- Provides guidance and supervision to junior staff or interns involved in design projects.
QUALIFICATIONS
• Bachelor’s degree and four years’ related experience required.
• Experience with WordPress; Blackbaud; Constant Contact; Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop.
• Comfortable working across departments.
CUNY TITLE OVERVIEW
Provides design and production expertise for College publications, written materials, and multi-media communications.
- Works with department and other College administrators to assess departmental publication needs and determine appropriate production and design elements
- Participates in planning communications messages, graphic elements, and formats appropriate to client requirements
- Manages production schedules and budgets, coordinating production activities with internal and external personnel
- Plans and implements on-line and multimedia communications, coordinating with Information Technology professionals as needed
- Supervises staff both creative and production staff; works with College print shop, computer center, and other departments to ensure support of college publication needs
- May oversee equipment inventories and coordinate maintenance of specialized equipment and technology
- Develops production workflows, policies and standards, and assures adherence to any internal or external communications standards
- Performs related duties as assigned.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
Salary commensurate with education and experience, within approved range: $52,267 - $68,004
CUNY is in the process of implementing salary schedule increases. Once implemented, salaries of eligible employees will be adjusted by 6.09% with additional increases of 3.25% effective 9/1/2025 and 3.5% effective 9/1/26, in accordance with the terms of the PSC-CUNY collective bargaining agreement.
Salary commensurate with education and experience.
