    This position exists to provide oversight and compliance of the Worker Protection Standard (WPS) program in Minnesota by evaluating department inspections/investigations to determine violations and recommend appropriate enforcement response.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Three (3) years of work experience in an agricultural industry that includes pesticides/fertilizers or in an environmental program that includes compliance and enforcement of state and federal regulations. NOTE: A bachelor's degree in Agriculture, Biology, Botany, Environmental Science, Horticulture, Soil Science, or a related field may substitute one (1) year of work experience.

     

    Experience with the Worker Protection Standard.

     

    Bilingual in either Spanish or Hmong.

     

    Experience conducting state/federal fertilizer/pesticide or other environmental regulatory inspections/investigations.

     

    Excellent verbal and written communication skills including the ability to effectively communicate with regulated clientele and various other entities.

     

    Must be able to produce professionally written and sound regulatory and associated documents.

    Preferred Qualifications

    More than three (3) years of experience in an agricultural industry that includes pesticide/fertilizers or in an environmental program that includes compliance and enforcement of state and federal regulations.

     

    A bachelor's degree in Agriculture, Biology, Botany, Environmental Science, Horticulture, Soil Science or a related science or regulatory compliance discipline.

     

    Experience with Worker Protection Standard inspections/investigations and case file review.

    Physical Requirements

    The position must perform a variety of routine office tasks such as handle documents and files, move about the building for meetings, and sit at workstation for periods of time at computer or phone. The position will comply with all State, Department, division and program policies and guidelines applicable to a safe work environment. Exposure to agricultural chemicals may occur during while accompanying inspectors on inspections and investigations. The employee must wear all required safety equipment and follow standard operating procedures for personal protection. The employee must use sufficient judgement to protect himself/herself from injury. The employee must follow department safety policies and practices. The employee must be able to work with difficult individuals and must remove himself/herself from situations when necessary for protection.

    Additional Requirements

    The Minnesota Department of Agriculture will not sponsor applicants for work visas, including STEM OPT extensions. All applicants must be legally authorized to work in the US.
