    Wesleyan University’s Department of Sociology invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Sociology beginning July 1, 2026.

     

    Priority will be given to applicants whose cross-disciplinary scholarship focuses on urbanism, production of space, critical geography, social mapping, etc. We value teaching excellence and are looking for scholars who thrive in the liberal arts classroom and are thoughtful about their pedagogy. We seek candidates with an ability to teach Introductory Sociology; our required meta-methodological “logics of inquiry” course (Sociology 202); and unique and innovative topical courses.

     

    Ph.D. in Sociology or related field in hand by the time of appointment to be hired as an Assistant Professor; a successful candidate without Ph.D in hand at the time of appointment, may be hired as an Instructor, but will be required to complete the Ph.D. in Sociology or related field within one year of hire. The teaching courseload is 2/2 and in person on Wesleyan’s campus. Additional duties include advising and mentoring students, carrying on a program of research, and participating in faculty governance at the departmental and university level. With a strong and diverse undergraduate student body, Wesleyan is a highly selective liberal arts college that values both scholarship and teaching very highly and offers a generous sabbatical program and competitive salaries and benefits.
