Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Property Accountant to join our client’s team within the commercial Real Estate industry. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in Real Estate accounting and demonstrate proficiency with Yardi property management software. In this role, you will manage the financial performance of a portfolio of commercial properties, ensuring accurate accounting and reporting while adhering to industry regulations and company policies.
Key Responsibilities:
+ Property Accounting: Handle the full-cycle accounting process for a portfolio of commercial properties, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and monthly close processes.
+ Financial Reporting: Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, ensuring data accuracy and compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
+ Variance Analysis: Perform variance analysis by comparing actuals versus budget forecasts and provide insights or recommendations to property managers and leadership.
+ Accounts Payable/Receivable Management: Oversee invoicing, accounts receivable collections, and accounts payable processing for each assigned property, ensuring timeliness and accuracy.
+ Budgeting and Forecasting: Collaborate with property managers and leadership to develop and manage operational budgets and forecasts for each property within your assigned portfolio.
+ Lease Administration Support: Reconcile tenant lease agreements with billing records to ensure compliance, calculate common area maintenance (CAM) charges, property taxes, and other recoverable costs.
+ Software Utilization: Utilize Yardi for tracking, reporting, and managing accounting records related to property operations. Maintain data accuracy in the system and optimize its functionality.
+ Auditing and Compliance: Support annual audits by preparing schedules, reports, and documentation. Ensure compliance with financial and tax regulations relating to real estate operations.
+ Collaboration: Work closely with internal teams, including property management, to provide financial insights and assist with decision-making to maximize property performance.
Requirements
Qualifications:
+ Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is required.
+ Experience: Minimum of 2–4 years of property accounting experience within the commercial real estate industry.
+ Technical Skills:
+ Proficiency in Yardi Voyager or similar Yardi platforms is required.
+ Advanced proficiency in Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, etc.) and other Microsoft Office applications.
+ Knowledge: Strong understanding of GAAP and real estate-specific accounting practices, such as CAM reconciliations, lease administration, and recoverable expenses.
+ Detail-Oriented: High degree of accuracy, strong organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
+ Soft Skills: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams. Proactive problem-solving and analytical mindset.
Preferred Skills:
+ Familiarity with additional property management platforms or accounting software.
+ Experience with commercial real estate portfolios including office buildings, retail centers, or industrial properties.
+ CPA designation or CPA candidacy is a plus but not required.
