Description We are looking for a detail-oriented Senior Accountant to join our team in Fredericksburg, Virginia. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in maintaining high standards of accuracy and confidentiality while ensuring compliance with government regulations and accounting principles. You will play a key role in managing financial records, audits, and reconciliations while driving process improvements across accounting operations.
Responsibilities:
• Conduct audits to ensure the accuracy and compliance of financial data with regulatory standards.
• Prepare and enter monthly general ledger entries, including accruals, deferrals, and reclassifications.
• Perform account reconciliations, including bank accounts, health benefits, retirement accounts, and other balance sheet accounts.
• Collaborate with internal departments to analyze and interpret financial information for budgeting and forecasting.
• Oversee and administer accounting software systems while implementing process enhancements as needed.
• Assist with month-end and year-end closings, including annual financial statement audits.
• Support payroll processing and monitor third-party vendors managing payroll and HR.
• Maintain accurate recordkeeping and gather supporting documentation for financial activities.
• Stay updated on best practices and changes in accounting regulations to ensure compliance.
• Drive process improvements in accounting operations and perform additional duties as required. Requirements • Bachelor’s or associate’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• A minimum of 2 years of general ledger accounting experience is required; 3-5 years preferred, with non-profit experience being a plus.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Google applications.
• Familiarity with accounting and business management software, such as Abila.
• Strong understanding of accounting policies, procedures, and reporting standards.
• Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy in financial analysis.
• Excellent time-management and organizational skills.
• Solid knowledge of U.S. accounting principles and regulations.
