    Job Description:

    The Special Education Teacher is responsible for managing a caseload of students with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and 504 Plans, ensuring the delivery of services as outlined in each plan and supporting the effective implementation of accommodations and modifications.

    Responsibilities:

    The Special Education Teacher provides both direct and indirect instructional support to students in a positive and inclusive environment, in alignment with their IEP or 504 Plan. They establish and clearly communicate learning objectives for each lesson, employing specialized strategies and techniques to enhance the development of sensory-motor skills, language, cognition, and memory. Instructional methods may include phonetics, multi-sensory learning, and repetition, tailored to meet students’ diverse needs and interests.

     

    The teacher maintains a structured, supportive classroom by enforcing consistent behavioral expectations based on the school-wide behavior plan. Accurate documentation of lesson plans, student service logs, and progress monitoring data is essential, in accordance with legal and school requirements. They complete quarterly progress reports for students on their caseload and act as the primary point of contact for those students, fostering consistent communication and coordination with families and staff.

     

    The Special Education Teacher collaborates closely with parents, administrators, testing specialists, social workers, and other professionals to develop and adjust IEPs that promote academic, physical, and social-emotional growth. They serve as active members of multidisciplinary teams and participate in weekly team meetings with general education teachers to ensure cohesive student support.

     

    Additional responsibilities include assisting with standardized testing, participating in ongoing professional development and curriculum planning, and supporting school operations through assigned duties such as afternoon coverage or administrative tasks.

    Requirements:

    + Background and knowledge in Special Education

    + Sheltered English Immersion (SEI) Endorsement
