Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for a Specialty Systems Engineering Manager to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position is in Melbourne, Florida (Ability to travel up to 25% of the time).
The selected candidate will utilize 20% of allocation to lead a team of Human Factors, EEE, and System Safety practitioners assigned to the E-2 program, and will report to the Specialty Engineering Department Manager. The selected candidate will have experience in Aviation System Safety production line and / or manufacturing procedures. The selected candidate will be required to maintain a technical statement of work for the remaining 80% of its safety technical work scope on the E-2 program.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
+ Apply knowledge, methodologies, and principles of safety engineering as defined in MIL-STD-882 and Software Safety engineering as defined in the Joint Software System Safety Engineering Handbook (JSSSEH).
+ Evaluate product systems, associated support equipment, functional specifications, and operations to establish safety criteria for assigned systems
+ Independently analyze system design, equipment, and procedures for hazards and categorize hazard risks in accordance with MIL_STD-882
+ Assess implementations for hazard and causal factors to satisfy critical system safety objectives
+ Collaborate with various design teams in the execution of various MIL-STD-882 hazard analyses
+ Review and prepare engineering and technical analyses, reports, change proposals, and other technical documentation for system safety and in support of Airworthiness Certification IAW MIL-HDBK-516
+ Review Test Plans and Procedures for safety requirements verification and potential hazardous operations
+ Perform hardware/ software safety analyses (Experience in AGILE development)
+ Analyze, recommend, and drive safety criteria in the resolution of Production facility’s Request for Information (RFI), Problem Alerts (PA), Material Recall Order (MRO), and Notice of Escapes (NOE)
FUNCTIONAL MANAGER DUTIES:
+ Develop and maintain a cohesive and dedicated team of Specialty Systems Engineering practitioners based on diverse work experience backgrounds
+ Ensure team unity and the ability of the team to work effectively with other disciplines
+ Set operating objectives and provide guidance and mentoring to assigned employees
+ Aid programs on staffing and Specialty Systems Engineering processes
+ Manage the performance management process for assigned employees
+ Review and make recommendations for promotions and special assignments
+ Ensure the assigned workforce is properly trained for successful achievement of program goals
+ Provide insight into Section status and performance to Department Manager
+ Provide first-level resolution of personnel issues according to company processes and procedures.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
+ Bachelor’s Degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline and 9+ years engineering experience - OR a Master’s degree in a STEM discipline and 7+ years of system engineering experience
+ In order to qualify for this position, applicants must currently have an active DoD Secret Security Clearance with the ability to obtain access for supported programs
+ Demonstrated competence in the application of System Safety requirements across the Systems engineering Lifecycle
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
+ Advanced degree in a field in a STEM field
+ Demonstrated experience with aircraft System Safety requirements and implementations IAW MIL-STD-882
+ Demonstrated experience in the development of Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), System Safety Program Plans (SSPP), Preliminary Hazard Analysis (PHA), System/Subsystem Hazard Analysis (SHA), Functional Hazard Analysis (FHA), and Software System Safety Analysis.
+ Experience in a System Engineering leadership role
+ Experience in training of System Engineering methods and processes
+ Excellent communication, interpersonal skills and the ability to interface with all levels of employees and management
+ Active, in scope DoD Top Secret or SCI clearance
+ Experience in Aviation System Safety production line and / or manufacturing procedures
Salary Range: $135,100.00 - $202,700.00
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
