    *The University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB), School of Medicine - Graduate Program in Life Sciences (GPILS)*is currently seeking an*Academic Services Specialist*. The Academic Services Specialist for the GPILS Molecular Microbiology & Immunology Program (MMI) reports to the GPILS program administrator and the graduate program director. This position is responsible for managing day-to-day operations of the MMI program, coordinating daily activities, student functions, data management, goal setting, and creating strategies to achieve program objectives. All employees are expected to work primarily physically within the State of Maryland.* *Essential Functions:* * Oversee daily and long-range program operations and assist students and faculty in the Graduate Program in Molecular Microbiology & Immunology. Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve challenges for faculty and students in the Molecular Microbiology & Immunology Program. * Develop and conduct formal and informal surveys of students to identify strengths and address needs within the program. * Work with the Program Director and faculty to provide strategic direction for the Molecular Microbiology & Immunology Program. * Maintain and nurture effective partnerships with various constituents across campus and with the multiple schools represented in the Molecular Microbiology & Immunology Program. * Manage all aspects of recruiting for the Program, including applicant review, database management, organizing interviews and travel, maintaining contact with prospective students. Identify and assist in the resolution of barriers to student retention. * Serve on various committees in the Molecular Microbiology & Immunology Program. * Plan and coordinate daily and long-range plans/activities of the program, including monthly student presentations, Professor’s Rounds, Molecular Microbiology & Immunology Journal Club, monthly seminar series, and other events as they arise. The handling and management of budgeting and financial oversight is required for these events as well. This includes following all state and institutional guidelines and processes. * Assist with grant reports, proposals, and renewals – including statistical analysis for Department of Microbiology & Immunology -Related NIH Training Grant submissions. Assist with analysis/reporting and representing the program as needed. * Track the professional development and career advancement of MMI graduates. Provide guidance in the students’ selections of laboratory rotations and courses. Update and maintain web content for Molecular Microbiology & Immunology Program website. * Perform other duties as assigned. *Education:*Bachelor’s degree. *Experience:*Two (2) years of administration of a program, preferably in higher education or healthcare setting. *Other:*Clery act designated job as campus security authorities (CSA) member and will comply with Clery Act requirements. Except for qualifications established by law, additional related experience and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance of the work of the job class may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 undergraduate college credits being equivalent to one year of related experience. In instances where specific education and/or experience is required only directly related education and/or experience may be substituted. *Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:* * Possess knowledge of academic programs and requirements. Able to perform position in compliance with all requirements, regulations, and laws. Ability to maintain high standards with the work being performed and maintain awareness with trends and influences.
