    Position OverviewUnited Health Services (UHS) is hiring an Apprentice Maintenance Technician to assist with the repair, inspection, and preventive maintenance of building systems and equipment. In this entry-level role, you’ll work under the guidance of skilled technicians to troubleshoot issues, perform routine tasks, and gain hands-on experience in plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and general maintenance across healthcare facilities.

     

    This is a physically active position that requires problem-solving skills, a willingness to learn, and the ability to work safely and effectively in a fast-paced environment.     Compensation Range:

    $17.98 - $25.17 per hour, depending on experience

    Job Responsibilities

    + Assist in performing basic maintenance and repair tasks across multiple trades, including masonry, carpentry, electrical, painting, plumbing, and general building operations under supervision

    + Complete routine groundskeeping duties such as mowing lawns, trimming shrubs, raking leaves, collecting litter, and sweeping sidewalks to maintain clean and safe outdoor areas

    + Serve as a permanent member of the facility’s snow removal team, including participation in scheduled on-call rotations during inclement weather to ensure safe walkways and entrances

    + Support snow removal operations by shoveling, salting, and operating snow removal equipment under guidance

    + Help maintain Engineering Department vehicles and equipment by performing basic cleaning, inspections, and reporting mechanical issues as needed

    + Follow all required safety procedures and regulations, including those set by OSHA, the New York State Department of Labor, and United Health Services

    + Wear and use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) when performing tasks, ensuring safety for self and others

    + Assist skilled maintenance staff with routine and emergency repairs, gaining hands-on experience and training in building systems and facility operations

    + Monitor tools, materials, and supplies to ensure availability for maintenance tasks and report inventory needs to supervisors

    + Participate in safety trainings, toolbox talks, and other educational opportunities to build technical knowledge and workplace safety awareness

    + Respond to work orders and maintenance requests as assigned, communicating task progress and completion with supervisors

    + Perform other duties as assigned to support the maintenance and upkeep of hospital buildings, equipment, and grounds

    Position Qualifications

    Minimum Required:

    + High School Diploma or currently enrolled in a High School or Trade School.

    + Must have a valid driver’s license in good standing

    Preferred:

    + Two (2) years skilled trades experience or completion of Trade School.

    + In lieu of the above minimum requirements, an equivalent combination of experience and certification that fall within the limits of minimum requirements and preferred will be considered.
