The Lab Technician is primarily responsible for performing various routine bacteriological, chemical, and analytical tests on ingredients, in-process, and finished products to ensure compliance with all company and regulatory standards.
Responsibilities
+ Conduct micro testing using Rapid Analyzer ATP.
+ Perform analytical testing and wet chemistry analysis including pH, salts, viscosity, fats, moisture, etc.
+ Execute stability testing and maintain detailed paperwork.
+ Execute microbiological testing procedures to verify commercial sterility of finished products.
+ Implement the Environmental Monitoring Program.
+ Organize and manage storage and shipment of finished product samples.
+ Execute the Water Testing Program.
+ Administer the Sensory Program for finished products.
+ Create Certificates of Analysis and manage communication for finished product release.
+ Coordinate verification, calibration routines, and maintenance programs for laboratory equipment and instruments.
+ Develop and validate quality assurance testing methods.
+ Coordinate external lab testing programs.
+ Support and execute positive release processes for finished products.
+ Contribute to root cause analysis of customer complaint investigations.
+ Assist in maintaining and improving FSQ documentation practices.
+ Maintain organization, cleanliness, and housekeeping of FSQ Lab area.
+ Order and perform inventory control for supplies and reagents.
+ Assist in managing sample retain inventory, which includes moving and organizing materials in the warehouse.
+ Other duties as assigned by management.
Essential Skills
+ Proficiency in biology, HACCP, laboratory processes, chemistry, microbiology, and auditing.
+ Experience and proficiency with pipetting (2 plus years in school or industry).
+ Knowledge of aseptic technique.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ Associates or Bachelors Degree in the Sciences.
Work Environment
The position is based in a food manufacturing facility with a micro and chemistry lab. Approximately 90% of the day will be spent in the lab performing analysis. The team of four lab technicians tests an average of 1,200 samples per day across all shifts. The likely hours for this position are 9pm to 5am, with the schedule potentially being Monday-Friday with rotating weekends, or possibly Sunday-Thursday or Tuesday-Saturday. Candidates must be flexible and willing to work weekends. Initial training hours are from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. and will last 1-4 weeks until comfortable. A company uniform, including blue pants and a lab coat, will be provided.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $21.00 - $22.00/hr.
