    Job Title: Instrumentation and Controls EngineerJob Description

     

    We are seeking an experienced Instrumentation and Controls Engineer to join our dynamic team. This role involves working primarily on testing equipment such as engine and vehicle test stands. The development and build processes take place in Wisconsin, while most engineers operate onsite at various clients' locations to assist with installation and support. The position requires some travel, mainly within Michigan, Indiana, and Ohio, with occasional trips to Wisconsin.

    Responsibilities

    + Collaborate with the I&C Manager to support, mentor, and guide the Michigan-based I&C team.

    + Develop and review control system architecture, flow diagrams, process and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), control sequences, and design specifications.

    + Analyze risks and hazards, conducting risk analyses.

    + Create responsibility matrices, instrument indexes, bills of material (BOMs), and other project tools.

    + Develop and review wiring schematics and control panel layout drawings.

    + Program and integrate Human-Machine Interfaces (HMIs) and Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), including offerings from various manufacturers.

    + Design, set up, and perform system functionality tests on equipment in our manufacturing facility and at customer sites.

    + Develop wire pull schedules and scope of work documents for contractor bidding and construction.

    + Perform onsite startup and validation of equipment.

    + Conduct I/O checkout, troubleshooting, instrument calibration, and PID loop tuning.

    + Validate programming to ensure systems operate according to control sequences.

    Essential Skills

    + Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.

    + 5+ years of experience in the design, build, and programming of PLC systems with field experience from design to start-up.

    + 5+ years of programming experience in Allen-Bradley & HMI development.

    + 5+ years of AutoCAD Electrical (or similar CAD package) experience designing controls.

    + 5+ years of commissioning experience.

    + Experience working with customers or in a customer environment.

    + Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively in a team.

    Additional Skills & Qualifications

    + Experience with P&IDs (Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams).

    + Experience working on engine test stands or vehicle test stands.

    Work Environment

    The role is based in a satellite office with approximately 25 staff members, including PMs and Controls Engineers. Most of the time will be spent onsite at the client's location. The company values a team-oriented culture with strong communication and camaraderie. Travel is required about 20% of the time, which may include local travel where you can return home nightly and out-of-state trips that may last from two weeks to two months. When projects allow, travel expenses to return home every weekend are covered. The company supports remote work opportunities when not in the field and once acclimated to the role.

    Pay and Benefits

    The pay range for this position is $95000.00 - $125000.00/yr.
