    *SUMMARY:*

     

    We are currently seeking a 0.7 FTE*Occupational Therapist II*to join our outpatient neuro OT team. This role will work at our downtown Clinic and Specialty Center location. Schedule preference would be Monday, Wednesday, and Friday with an additional half shift day schedule. This role primarily involves the treatment of neurologic conditions such as traumatic and acquired brain injuries (TBI/ABI), stroke, and other general diagnoses, with a strong focus on safety, cognition, and promoting independence in activities of daily living (ADLs) and instrumental activities of daily living (IADLs).

     

    The position also includes the assessment and treatment of visual deficits. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in neuro-vision rehabilitation for complex visual impairments within an outpatient setting, particularly those who have worked collaboratively with neuro-optometrists—or those with a strong interest and willingness to develop expertise in this area.

     

    Additional specialty areas may include, but are not limited to, return-to-work programs, driving rehabilitation, and spinal cord injury (SCI) management.

     

    *Purpose of this position:*In collaboration with an interdisciplinary team, provides therapeutic services including evaluation, treatment, discharge planning and education.

    *RESPONSIBILITIES:*

    * Performs and documents comprehensive occupational therapy evaluations

    * Develops and documents patient care plans to promote optimal function and safety

    * Observes, evaluates and documents patient’s progress

    * Participates in hospital rounds and patient care conferences

    * Educates patients and care gives on therapeutic techniques, cares and treatments

    * Completes all documentation and charges of services per departmental standards

    * Functions as a clinical instructor for occupational therapy students

    * Directs and supervises activities performed by the OT aides consistent with their training and skill (patient transfers, patient transport, preparation of patient and equipment for treatment, selected treatment procedures, clerical duties, and departmental maintenance)

    * Properly applies and operates rehabilitative equipment

    * Develops and conducts occupational therapy in-services for other staff

    * Orients and mentors newly assigned staff

    * Serves as a clinical resource for other staff

    * Participates in program development

    * Represents the occupational therapy department on committees and provides consultation to other departments and agencies as assigned

    * Assumes responsibilities of the supervisor as assigned during the supervisor’s absence

    * Provides work direction for clerical staff

    * Assists in monitoring the quality of occupational therapy activities and services

    * Functions as a resource for departmental policies and procedures

    * Graduation from an occupational therapy curriculum accredited by the American Medical Association

    * Minimum of 2 fulltime years of experience (4,160 hours)

    * Previous clinical experience/rehabilitation experience in neuro-based outpatient settings

    * Experience with ABI, TBI, stroke, neuro vision rehabilitation and collaboration with neuro-optometrist

    * CPR certification

    * Knowledge of policies/procedures and practice standards; occupational therapy theory, techniques, and treatment, physical therapy and orthopedic equipment; counseling and educational techniques; bandaging and wrapping techniques

    * Mental Health

    * Current knowledge, theory, practice standards, and sound clinical judgment are necessary to support adults with mental health diagnoses

    * Experience with group facilitation and group dynamics

    * Experience with motivational interviewing to facilitate patient education, development of communication and social skills, healthy coping skills

    * Ability to support development of healthy and effective daily routines to promote well-being, health maintenance, stress management, and engagement in functional life activities

    * Experience with therapeutic use of sensory modulation and sensory strategies

    * Ability to perform cognitive and performance-based assessments to evaluate patient needs, interpret results, and develop appropriate interventions and recommendations

    * Provide care that is trauma-informed, patient-centered, and culturally sensitive

    * Ability to perform professional occupational therapy techniques and treatment; calibrate and operate occupational therapy equipment

    * Ability to provide work direction for ancillary personnel

    * Ability to counsel and instruct patients and families; ability to recognize and document patient progress

    * Ability to work cooperatively with other members of the medical team

    * Ability to interact with individuals of widely diverse lifestyles including ability to deal objectively with individuals whose attitudes and behaviors differ from his/her own

    * Ability to read and interpret written instructions, patient charts, and physicians' notes

    * Ability to interpret policies and procedures in an advisory capacity (educate)

    * Certified or eligible for the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT) certification examination for Occupational Therapist, Registered. As a condition of employment, employees hired on an "or eligible" status must take and pass the first available examination after his/her date of hire
