    The Position

    Position provides field coaching, mentorship and management to the field-based Medical Liaisons, and develops and implements strategies: optimally manage key opinion leader/organized provider/academic institutions/ integrated delivery networks, and other key health care provider/organization relationships, specifically with the provision of timely and up to date scientific information relevant to ensure personal development of the team; and between the field-based Medical Liaison team and other NNI units / personnel. Organized Provider Accounts, project and team leading responsibilities for FMA; contributes to the representation of FMA throughout the US affiliate and globally if needed; responsible for administrative and management support of field-based FMA Program at Novo Nordisk Inc (NNI). Accountable for ensuring that they and their team act in complete and total compliance with all laws, regulations and policies. Responsible for administrative and management support of field-based FMA Program at Novo Nordisk Inc. (NNI). Assignments are objective oriented. Establishes operating policies and procedures that affect the work unit. Develops budgets, schedules, and performance standards. Strategic determination of change of region and territory prioritization will be based on customer need and analytics which identify need for change. This may occur at any time throughout the annual performance cycle.

     

    Relationships

     

    Reports to Executive Director or Vice President Medical Affairs. Has direct supervisory responsibility for field based Medical Liaisons in designated areas of the U.S. Works closely with home office (Medical, Marketing, Sales, Legal, Human Resources) and field personnel. Works with Medical Liaisons and their contacts with academic institutions, integrated delivery networks, managed care organizations and HMOs, as needed based on territory archetypes in alignment with patient value framework. Leads briefings and technical meetings for internal and external representatives.

    Essential Functions

    + Coordination/Communication and Administration

    + Work with the field-based Regional, MM, and RMS teams to improve and develop new relationships and maintain existing relationships with thought-leaders in specialty areas that are affected by NNI products. Help define mutual areas of interest and potential areas of collaboration. Manages direct reports in the provision of responses to all requests for information

    + Acts and is accountable for others in his/her team, acting in complete and total compliance with all laws, regulations and policies

    + Ensures that the most up-to-date information on the therapeutic area and NNI clinical plans and study results, product support letters, and the Marketing and Sales product plan and tactics is made available to the field-based Medical Liaisons

    + Participates in Marketing and Sales meetings and national medical meetings; interacts with CTM and DEP management and external task forces, as needed

    + Reviews and audits direct report expense reports; manages and reviews time and activities (as collected and tracked in VEEVA)

    + Reviews, evaluates, and channels information to the appropriate NNI personnel, if needed, and provides timely responses to requests from the Medical Liaisons for support of various activities from contacts in their respective region

    + Management

    + Actively manages the field medical team by putting the right people on the right projects, based on their capacity/skill/interest/capability and assists them with pre-call planning in preparation for customer visits

    + Communicates NNI policies, procedures (including 3P - setting/reviewing annual goals) and organizational changes to reporting personnel; answers teams questions

    + Coordinates with other Field Directors to ensure consistency of training and development approach across different areas while customizing initiatives to best fit the unique needs of direct reports

    + Ensures that FMA personnel understand the strategic and therapeutic priorities of Novo Nordisk, that their work is focused on those priorities, and that they understand their level of accountability for results and the measurement process

    + Provides onboarding/training for new hires, mentors and builds the talents of reporting personnel particularly with respect to knowledge of technical and scientific information, business practices, communication and motivational skills as well as providing broad legal overview of pharma industry and NNI globally

    + Spends adequate field time with direct reports to coach and develop personnel and ensure that unit objectives are being met and provide timely, constructive feedback documented in iCoach

    + Strategic Planning

    + Facilitates feedback from Field Medical Personnel to assist Medical and Marketing and Sales to develop strategies and tactics that will

    + Improve strategic planning

    + Expand and improve the quality of clinical research

    + Increase accuracy of medical and marketing assessments

    + Improve the competitive positioning of NNI products

    + Takes a leadership role in coordinating and resourcing activities, including allocating financial and people resources, supporting appropriate use of NNI products and greater utilization of its services

    + Takes a leadership role in coordinating activities at assigned medical and scientific meetings and symposia. Attends assigned symposia to

    + Maintain awareness of current issues and new data pertaining to NNI products/global trends/general market

    + Develop and maintain relationships with health care providers

    + Support appropriate use of NNI products and greater utilization of its services

    + Support representatives in answering physicians questions

    + Works with Executive Director to define therapeutic area disease and treatment concepts that will

    + Become the basis of Medical Liaison field-based activities

    + Be adopted by thought leaders/organized providers and academic institutions/integrated delivery networks

    + Support the use of Novo Nordisk products. Define and implement tactics that will allow for the timely acceptance of these concepts

    + Proactively identifies and pursues new ideas, solutions, methods, opportunities, and foster innovation to keep team abreast of scientific knowledge and job-related business demands and provide as necessary updates to FMA team

    + Takes a leading role in collaborating with Marketing, market Shaping, Commercial Effectiveness and Sales management to assist in development of scientific strategies to optimize NNIs products and development activities in the medical community. Routinely attend live meetings and conferences calls

    Physical Requirements

    50-75% overnight travel required; Position is a U.S. Field Based; Driver must maintain a valid driver's license; Must be in good standing by not exceeding the Novo Nordisk points threshold assigned based on review of Motor Vehicle Records.

     

    Development Of People

     

    Supervisory. Ensure that reporting personnel have individual development plans (IDP), with annual goals and measurements that are consistent with the priorities of the business, and that interim reviews are held so that their work is focused on those priorities, and they understand their level of accountability for results and the measurement process. Ensure that the IDP forms include completed learning and aspiration plans and are in place for all reporting personnel to enable the achievement of goals and capability to assume increased levels of responsibility. Manage the application and communication of all Novo Nordisk policies, procedures, and Novo Nordisk Way.

    Qualifications

    + Doctoral Degree required (e.g., DO, MD, PharmD, PhD, DNP); scientific discipline preferred

    + A minimum of 6 years progressive pharmaceutical industry experience required

    + 3 years of direct people management experience required

    + A minimum of 3 years of experience in ML or equivalent role required

    + 3 years of experience in a healthcare system preferred

    + Direct experience in therapeutic area (Hemostasis) is preferred

    + Proven track record of success, especially in establishing relationships with opinion leaders, professional societies, strategy and team management, and significant cross-functional collaborative leadership capabilities

    + Requires demonstrated ability to establish and strengthen relationships with internal and external stakeholders and the ability to enhance and advance Novo Nordisk’s image and operations

    + Requires minimal supervision, the ability to proactively identify, address and resolve team-wide challenges, and be considered a valuable resource who sets a leadership example for others

    + Requires self-development, including leadership/personal development, reading latest scientific literature, and keeping up with competitors

    + Requires someone with a take-charge attitude, works autonomously and strategically, and adds creativity and value to operations on the Area and national level by leading and sharing best practices

    + Requires the flexibility, agility, and foresight to quickly, and strategically navigate field medical personnel through a rapidly changing dynamic market space

    + Demonstrates leadership skills to less experienced field medical personnel and assists them in strategic thinking and problem-solving skills

     

    The base compensation range for this position is $260,000 to $315,000. Base compensation is determined based on a number of factors. This position is also eligible for a company bonus based on individual and company performance.

     

    Novo Nordisk offers long-term incentive compensation and or company vehicles depending on the position's level or other company factors.
