Job Description
The Iowa Judicial Branch has an opening for an Accountant to join our team!
To apply: Candidates must complete the NEOGOV application and submit a cover letter and resume in order to be considered for this position.
The pay range for this position is $25.45 - $40.23 per hour, paid on a bi-weekly basis of 80 hours per pay period. The starting pay is expected to be at the base of the pay range. Adjustments may be made if the successful applicant has relevant experience.
Summary
Performs advanced or complex accounting and disbursing transactions, maintaining accurate accounts receivable, accounts payable, and general ledgers for transactions and fiscal activity.
Examples of Duties and Responsibilities
Maintain, analyze, and reconcile accounting operations, including statements and ledger
activities, ensuring compliance with regulations. Scrutinize and investigate variances.
Record and reconcile financial transactions, ensuring all entries are accurate and up-to-date.
Prepare accurate and timely financial records and reports.
Complete analysis of Iowa Judicial Branch expenditures, monthly reports of operations,
quarterly allotments, financial statements, and statistics.
Ensure adherence to financial policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements. Maintain a
system of checks and controls to keep the IJB safe from financial fraud.
Analyze financial data to identify trends, variances, and opportunities for efficient operations.
Liaison for internal and external stakeholders concerning activities, operations, and investigations for the financial section.
Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of accounting and finance principles, laws, and best practices.
Technical knowledge in accounting, GAAP, tax requirements of government agencies, financial
reporting requirements, and general audit compliance and control procedures.
Familiarity with the Iowa Judicial Branch’s goals and objectives, various court procedures, legal
terminology, and legislative process.
Ability to secure confidential information.
Ability to use financial software and tools.
Customer service skills.
Effective listening and communication skills.
Problem-solving and analytical skills.
Attention to detail.
This position may be located remotely and is eligible for telework.
This is a non-merit position with the Iowa Judicial Branch . Candidates must follow the instructions in the "To Apply" section.
Positions in this class are exempt from the screening and referral requirements of the Iowa Department of Administrative Services - Human Resources Enterprise
Minimum Qualification Requirements
The incumbent must meet the minimum requirements to qualify for the position.
+ High school diploma (or high school equivalency diploma).
+ Five years of experience in accounting, finance, bookkeeping, auditing, or closely related experience.
Experience may be substituted with related education on the basis that successful completion of thirty (30) semester hours or academic equivalent equals one year of experience.
