Division of Youth Services - Spring Creek Youth Services Center
About the Division of Youth Services: The Division of Youth Services (DYS) provides a continuum of residential and non-residential services that encompass juvenile detention, commitment, and parole. DYS is the agency statutorily mandated to provide for the care and supervision of youth committed by the District Court to the custody of the Colorado Department of Human Services. The Division operates fifteen secure facilities that serve youth between the ages of 10 and 21, who are pre-adjudicated, sentenced, or committed. The Division also contracts with numerous private residential and non-residential service providers throughout the State. For pre-adjudicated youth, the Division is also responsible for the management and oversight of Colorado Youth Detention Continuum, a State-funded, locally administered program that provides services to youth at risk of further progressing into the juvenile justice system. In addition to residential programming, the Division administers juvenile parole services throughout the State.

The work unit exists to provide academic, vocational and other educational related services to adjudicated youth in a safe, structured and positive environment where cognitive and affective learning will be achieved
About the Position:
+ The Special Education Building Coordinator provides leadership in planning, implementing, coordinating, and evaluating special education programming across Spring Creek Youth Services Center education program in alignment with the DYS Education Strategic Plan. The Special Education Building Coordinator supports special education teachers and paraprofessional (when applicable) in all aspects of implementation of the Special Education Process through age 21. The Special Education Building Coordinator also supports parents, administrators, teachers, school social workers, and other professional support staff in meeting the needs of students in need of services. The purpose of this position is to manage, develop, assess, and evaluate education program components. This position develops program guidelines and standards to address the diverse needs of students at Spring Creek Youth Services Center.
Summary of Job Duties:
Special Education and Child Find / Education Assessment Coordination:
+ This position provides coordination in planning, implementing, and ensuring special education programming and child find processes across the school are in alignment with DYS Education Strategies Plan, policies, and federal and state law. Duties include, but are not limited to:
+ Follow all rules and regulations of special education law including preparing reports for state and local indicators, submitting data to the Central office, scheduling meetings, and keeping and maintaining IEP records and other documents that pertain to special education
+ Facilitating Individual Education Programs (IEP) meetings using a strength based and family centered approach.
+ Work with school administrator(s), community organizations, and state agencies to facilitate special education programming.
+ Ensure IEP distribution to all staff participating in student’s educational progra
+ Serve on school data and/or MTSS team
+ Serve on DYS Special Education Advisory Team or other committees related to special education
+ Serve as the special education provider and/or designee for all IEP meetings including referrals
+ Consult with special education teachers with Individual Education Program development and scheduling
+ Coordinating with the student's special education team to ensure all documents are completed in a timely manner prior to any IEP meeting. Connect with the special education team to ensure all team members, including parents, are prepared for the content of the meeting.
Special Education and Child Find Related Assessments:
+ Analyzes and interprets test results, integrates findings, confers with other team members, and correlates assessment components to draw meaningful diagnostic conclusions. Generates this data, such as test scores used in reports, and then interprets the findings to funding sources and agencies. Member of the multidisciplinary team, utilizing test results to assist in determining appropriate security level and needs for each individual.

+ This position provides support to students in general or special education classes ensuring the continuum of services is available and provided to youth on Individualized Education Programs.

Education & Experience:
+ Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in a field of study related to the work assignment.
+ Two (2) years of professional experience in an occupational field related to the work assigned to the position preferably in special education teaching and/or administrative experience.
License:
+ Current, valid Professional Teacher license issued by the Colorado Department of Education with an endorsement in Special Education.

+ Master’s degree in Special Education
+ Relevant Years of State Service
Essential Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
+ Experience writing Individual Education Programs
+ Knowledge and experience implementing IDEA within the school setting
+ Experience with implementing articulated systems and structures with fidelity
Conditions of Employment:
+ Must be 21 years old or older
+ Must have a current and valid US driver's license
+ Must travel to training and events in Denver area and other state facilities.
+ CDE Teaching License; with and endorsement in Special Education
+ Must have no felony convictions and no violent history
+ Able to pass Escape and Evade training
+ Full Background: CBI name check and fingerprint check, ICON Colorado court database, Medicare fraud database, Reference Checks, Professional License verification (licensure requirements), Drug Screen, PREA (Division of Youth Services), Trails check (direct contact with children)
+ The Diana Screen®, a sexual risk screening tool, is administered to all applicants to the Division of Youth Services (DYS) seeking positions of trust with children and teens to help ensure that ethical boundaries between children and adults are maintained. At the DYS, the safety and protection of the youth who have been entrusted to us is our #1 priority. The results of the Diana Screen will be provided to the Division of Youth Services and may be used as part of the Division's decision on whether a candidate is selected.
+ Former State employees who were disciplinarily terminated or resigned in lieu of termination must disclose the information on the application and provide an explanation why the prior termination or resignation should not disqualify the applicant from the current position. Absent extraordinary circumstances, prior disciplinary termination or resignation in lieu of termination will disqualify the applicant from future State employment with CDHS
+ Continued employment is contingent upon successful completion of the DYS Pre-service Training Academy and mandatory annual training in all subject areas.
