ATS Life Sciences Chicago is a fast-paced, innovative, and growing organization within the ATS Corporation. We specialize in designing and building automation equipment for the life sciences industry. We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer I to join our dynamic team. This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated early-career professional or recent graduate to gain hands-on experience designing world-class automated systems.
TheMechanical Engineer Iwill support the conceptualization and design of custom automated equipment according to customer and internal specifications. Working under the guidance of a Lead Mechanical Engineer, this individual will grow into leading smaller-scale projects (≤ $500K) or replication builds independently.

Key Responsibilities:
+ Assist in designing cam, servo, and air-operated stations, and modifying existing designs.
+ Execute cam (drive) designs with attention to functionality, robustness, and cost-effectiveness.
+ Research and specify materials and components appropriate to the application.
+ Create detail drawings, assembly drawings, bills of materials, and release packages.
+ Participate in internal and customer design reviews.
+ Develop pneumatic and timing diagrams; select sensors.
+ Collaborate with suppliers for functional and economical design solutions.
+ Problem-solve design challenges and maintain documentation.
+ Follow project schedules and budgets while maintaining ATS and regulatory standards.
+ Communicate clearly in written and verbal formats.
+ Embrace teamwork, openness to feedback, and continuous improvement.
Qualifications:
+ Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Technology, or equivalent experience.
+ 1–2 years of experience in automation or a recent graduate with relevant project/internship experience.
+ Proficient in 2D AutoCAD and 3D SolidWorks (or similar CAD tools).
+ Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office.
+ Familiarity with measuring tools like calipers, micrometers, and scales.
+ Ability to read and interpret technical documentation and engineering drawings.
Physical Requirements & Work Environment
+ Ability to lift up to 50 lbs occasionally; up to 10 lbs frequently.
+ May require standing, walking, reaching, bending, and working at floor level.
+ Normal visual and auditory acuity required.
+ Primarily office environment with occasional exposure to manufacturing floor noise and hazards.

We offer COMPETITIVETotal Rewards - Starting salary for this position is $60,000 – $83,000 with, compensation for hours worked over 45, paid time off (PTO), employee incentive bonus program, comprehensive benefits (including health, dental vision and employee assistance program), a wellness reimbursement, tuition reimbursement, annual paid volunteer day off, 401K with employer match and optional employee share purchase program and more!!! 10% travel is required (domestic and international)
