The Position
Substance Abuse Counselors perform professional duties in areas of screening, assessment, case management, education, and treatment of clients and perform related administrative duties and recordkeeping in accordance with the standards and requirements of the Nevada Board of Examiners for Alcohol, Drug and Gambling Counselors.
Incumbents perform in a trainee capacity and acquire the knowledge, skills and abilities required in this occupation.
The Department of Correction is recruiting for a Substance Abuse Counselor 1 underfilling a Substance Abuse Counselor 2 located at Southern Desert Correctional Center (SDCC) in Indian Springs. Substance Abuse Counselor 1 staff will provide essential support in delivering substance use disorder treatment services to incarcerated individuals. Duties include assisting with client assessments, co-facilitating group and individual counseling sessions, monitoring treatment progress, and maintaining accurate records under clinical supervision. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in a field of social science approved by the Nevada Board of Examiners for Alcohol, Drug and Gambling Counselors and eligibility for certification as an Alcohol and Drug Counselor Intern as established by State law and the Board.
Special Requirements
A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.

The exam will consist of an application evaluation. It is essential that applications include detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience.
