    Clin Bus Analyst Senior

    Job Summary

    Under minimal supervision, the Respiratory Therapy Clinical Business Analyst Senior is responsible for the strategic planning, design, development, implementation, maintenance, and evaluation of clinical information systems to support and enhance patient care delivery within the respiratory therapy department(s). This role integrates clinical expertise with advanced analytical and technical skills to ensure systems align with clinical workflow, regulatory standards, and organizational goals.

    Responsibilities*

    + Analyze departmental and user business needs and translate them into functional and technical system requirements.

    + Design and implement clinical systems that support The Joint Commission requirements, healthcare compliance regulations, and electronic medical record (EMR) functionality.

    + Serve as a liaison between respiratory therapists, physicians, nurses, IT professionals, and vendors to align technology solutions with clinical needs.

    + Collaborate across interdisciplinary teams including project management, training, support, testing, and technical interface teams.

    + Prioritize and manage incoming requests for system support and enhancements.

    + Maintain clear, comprehensive documentation in accordance with project and regulatory standards.

    + Participate in system implementation and upgrades, ensuring continuity of operations and effective adoption.

    + Evaluate the business impact of proposed solutions and provide strategic recommendations that support both current operations and future growth.

    + Practices within the scope of license, certification, or registration.

    + Comply with all applicable continuing education requirements.

    + Complies with all University of Michigan, Michigan Medicine/UMHS and departmental policies, procedures, standards and expectations.

    + Supports the departments commitment to continuous improvement activities and principles through positive and respectful contributions to all problem-solving and changing processes at Home Care Services.

    + Performs other duties as assigned.

    Required Qualifications*

    + Bachelors degree in Respiratory Therapy or a related allied health field required.

    + Minimum of 5 years of relevant clinical and/or informatics experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

    + Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential with active state licensure.

    + Active membership in the American Association for Respiratory Care (AARC) and Michigan Society for Respiratory Care (MSRC).

    + Prior experience implementing or supporting clinical information systems such as Epic, Cerner, or similar EMR platforms.

    + Experience with data analysis, quality improvement, or reporting tools (e.g., SQL, Tableau, Power BI).

    + Strong knowledge of clinical workflows, respiratory care practices, and healthcare IT systems.

    + Demonstrated understanding of regulatory requirements (e.g., The Joint Commission, CMS) as they relate to clinical documentation and system functionality.

    + Proven ability to analyze complex problems, evaluate alternatives, and independently implement effective solutions.

    + Excellent interpersonal, communication, and project management skills.

    + Ability to work at the highest technical level of most phases of systems analysis while also understanding business needs.

    Desired Qualifications*

    + Masters degree in Respiratory Therapy, Health Informatics, Healthcare Administration, or a related field.

    + Formal training or certification in clinical informatics (e.g., CPHIMS, CAHIMS, or board certification in Clinical Informatics).

    + Project management certification or experience (e.g., PMP, Lean Six Sigma).

    + Demonstrated ability to lead interdisciplinary teams and facilitate consensus-building across clinical and technical stakeholders.

    + Familiarity with clinical system integration.

    + Experience developing training materials and leading end-user training sessions.

    + Understanding of current healthcare policy trends, data governance, and information security standards (e.g., HIPAA, HITECH).

    Positions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department.     Additional Information

    OCCUPATIONAL HAZARD INFORMATION:

    Staff members may have routine exposure to all chemical inventory, inclusive of hazardous materials, including but not limited to the office, hospital, and clinics. Chemical inventory reference materials are available to all staff in the form of hard copy and on-line Material Safety Data Sheets.

    Health Dangers:

    Continuous possibility of exposure to infectious diseases, high-pressure medical gases, and potential biologic/electrical hazards. Possibility of illness because of occupation.

     

    Background Screening

     

    Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings. Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
