The NA Regional EHS Manager will manage the development and implementation of an effective Environmental Health and Safety strategy for the NA region data center construction projects; to mitigate risk, and safeguard personnel, company and customer information, physical assets, and the Iron Mountain brand.
This position will execute daily management of the Iron Mountain Data Center (IMDC) environmental health and safety program to align it with IMDC and corporate objectives, policies, and standards. They will partner with contractors, and other functions within the assigned region. This position will ensure that all elements of compliance to EHS regulations including; local, state, and federal requirements.
The Regional Safety Manager for North America is responsible for overseeing the development, implementation, and enforcement of safety programs across multiple construction sites throughout the region. This leadership role ensures compliance with OSHA and other regulatory requirements while fostering a culture of safety excellence and operational discipline across all projects. The Regional Safety Manager will partner closely with project teams, subcontractors, and senior leadership to drive continuous improvement in safety performance.
The person who fills this position must enjoy working in a fast-paced environment and be committed to building collaborative relationships with contractors and operations to facilitate overall implementation of the health and safety program. This position will directly report to the Head of Global Health and Safety.
Responsibilities:
+ Strategic EHS Leadership: Monitor regional EHS performance, analyze trends, and implement improvement initiatives. Lead regional execution of company-wide safety policies, standards, and procedures. Align safety programs with corporate goals and ensure regional consistency across projects. Serve as a strategic partner to project managers, construction managers, and EHS teams.
+ Compliance & Risk Management: Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, and other federal/state/provincial EHS regulations. Lead regional audits, inspections, and risk assessments; oversee corrective action follow-up. Track and interpret regulatory changes and provide guidance to affected sites.
+ Incident Management: Support or lead incident investigations, root cause analysis, and development of corrective actions. Oversee serious incident reporting and communication with regulatory bodies as needed. Maintain oversight of injury/illness records and environmental releases. Develop and deliver regional safety training initiatives, including onboarding, toolbox talks, and specialized programs (e.g., fall protection, lockout/tagout, trench safety). Evaluate and coach site safety managers and field supervisors on best practices and leadership in safety. Support subcontractor and trade partner safety performance and training expectations.
+ Training & Development: Coordinate and deliver EHS training programs across sites in collaboration with site managers. Mentor and support site EHS professionals and construction teams. Coordinate and facilitate safety training programs for IMDC personnel, including site-specific training, high risk technical safety programs, qualified worker programs, hazard awareness, emergency procedures, and the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
+ Culture & Leadership Engagement: Champion a proactive safety culture by promoting employee involvement and accountability at all levels. Act as a visible safety leader during site visits, pre-task meetings, and project planning. Foster open communication and collaboration with project teams, trade partners, and clients.
+ Program Management & Continuous Improvement: Standardize and implement regional programs (e.g., hazard communication, chemical management, ergonomics, emergency response). Lead deployment of behavior-based safety initiatives and culture-building campaigns. Collaborate and contribute to the creation of EHS policies and procedures within IMDC global EHS strategy.
+ Reporting & Communication: Monitor regional safety performance metrics (TRIR, DART, near misses, leading indicators). Provide regular updates to executive leadership and project stakeholders. Utilize safety management systems (SMS) to maintain accurate documentation and trend analysis.
+ Other: Coordinate projects and other assigned duties as needed.
Qualifications:
+ Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Engineering, or a related field. Master's degree preferred.
+ Professional certification in occupational health and safety (e.g. CSHT, CSP, ASP) is highly desirable.
+ 5+ years experience in construction safety management.
+ In-depth knowledge of NA safety regulations and standards applicable to the construction industry.
+ Strong leadership abilities with the capacity to influence and inspire others to prioritize safety.
+ Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to convey complex safety concepts effectively.
+ Proven experience in developing and implementing safety programs, policies, and procedures.
+ Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to conduct thorough risk assessments and incident investigations.
+ Proficiency in using safety management software and tools for data analysis and reporting.
+ Willingness to travel extensively within designated regions as required. (30-50%)
+ Knowledge of Environmental Permits, SWPPP, SPCCC, and other regulations.
+ Ability to facilitate and diffuse crucial conversations
+ Must be able to multitask effectively during busy times, exercise patience, and professionalism during stressful situations.
+ Computer experience (GSuite preferred), able to create and manipulate spreadsheet information.
+ Ability to interact effectively with governmental regulatory authorities.
