We are seeking a detail-oriented and highly confidential accounting professional to support various aspects of accounting including payroll, benefits, and various bonus programs as well as other areas of accounting as identified. The Sr. Staff Accountant will prepare account reconciliations, post journal entries, support audits, ensure compliance with SOX internal controls and assist with preparing financial disclosures. A background in payroll and benefit accounting is preferable but not required.
The Sr. Staff Accountant will have relationship with cross-functional teams and particularly a strong partnership with the HR & Payroll team. This role plays a critical part in maintaining the accounting aspects of accuracy and integrity for payroll, severance, benefits, and sales incentive programs. The ideal candidate will have experience with payroll processes, payroll taxes, and general ledger reconciliations, along with experience working with systems such as SAP ERP and ADP. This role will not be responsible for processing payroll.
Responsibilities
+ Reconciliation: Reconcile sub-ledger systems including SAP ERP and ADP Statistical Reports and Payroll Registers
+ General Ledger Management: Partner with other departments and brands to ensure internal reporting and analysis needs are met and streamlined reporting measures are instilled
+ Financial Reporting and Planning: Prepare and analyze financial reports and own the tie-out and review of the payroll accruals, footnotes and other relevant disclosures. Own Month-end/ Quarter-end/ Year-end close responsibilities related to payroll.
+ Payroll and Severance: Prioritize confidentiality and demonstrate an understanding of payroll and payroll taxes, including employer and employee withholding and taxes, when reconciling payroll and severance and maintaining confidential records of employee severance balances.
+ Sales Incentive Programs and Commissions: Support commissions-based program as well as sales incentive program accounting and reporting
+ Benefits: Assist with recording and reconciling payroll benefits as well maintaining benefit, deferred payment and service accruals
+ Audit Assistance: Assist with financial statement reviews and audits, as well as, partnering with ADP and HR to assist with additional third-party audits
+ SOX Controls: Assist with implementation of enhancement of current procedures, specifically, creating governance and procedures to ensure completeness and accuracy risks
+ Data Analysis: Analyze wage, benefit and tax trends, to assist with planning and outside data requests
+ Problem-Solving: Reconcile between SAP, ERP and ADP reports, including reconciliation of payroll funding invoices and any additional third-party benefit reports
+ Attention to Detail: Provide support surrounding payroll, benefit and proper record-keeping, which is crucial for financial audits and overall business operations
+ Communication: Communicate with accounting, financial planning and human resources to ensure collaboration and all department reporting needs are met
+ Time Management: Prioritize tasks effectively, especially during audits, month-end close, or high-demand periods
+ Keep all sensitive matters confidential
+ Other duties or tasks as assigned
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
+ Proven experience maintaining strict confidentiality; demonstrate the highest standards of integrity in handling sensitive information
+ Experience with and knowledge of proper internal controls and best practices
+ Ability to identify process improvement opportunities and implementing a ‘best practice’ approach as the business moves towards operating within a listed entity environment
+ Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with various levels of stakeholders
+ Ability to serve as a liaison between accounting, financial planning and human resources to ensure collaboration and all department reporting needs are met
+ Ability to manage time effectively and prioritize tasks effectively, especially during audits, month-end close, or high-demand periods
+ Data analysis experience; ability to analyze wage, benefit and tax trends, to assist with planning and outside data requests
+ Problem-solving experience; ability to reconcile between SAP ERP and ADP reports including reconciliation of payroll funding invoices as well as any additional third-party benefit reports
+ Experience with and knowledge of proper internal controls and best practices
+ Demonstrates strong organizational skills and attention to detail
Education and Experience
+ Three (3) to five (5) years of experience in accounting related to payroll and reconciliations; public accounting experience preferred
+ Proficiency in SAP and ADP preferred
+ Knowledge of employer funded insurance programs is a plus
Travel Requirement
+ The location for this position is 100% on-site in Buffalo, NY
+ 0-5% travel; domestic and/or global

The salary range for this posted position is $70,000 - $85,000 (plus bonus & benefits) and pertains to candidates located in Western New York. Actual compensation will fall within this range and is determined by a wide array of factors including but not limited to skill set, education, essential job duties and requirements, and necessary experience.
