    Summary:

    With management oversight, this position supervises the activities of all employees involved in the Patient Services area of the Nutrition and Food Services department at the Medical Center.

    Responsibilities:

    1.Responsible for meal distribution to service sites, proper holding and handling of foods to be served, and some food preparation and presentation. Ensures staff are using safe food handling techniques and that diet restrictions are being followed. Monitors and records temperatures, and conducts taste testing food items as needed.

    2.Responsible for the patient meal tray line process and oversees the operation.

    3.Responsible for overseeing the patient meal tray delivery process to patient rooms.

    4.Ensures all policy and regulatory standards are met, including health regulations and JCAHO standards.

    5.Establishes own shift work plan and priorities, using and/or modifying established procedures. Assists in the development of plans, methods, and procedures for improving the overall operations of the Nutrition and Food Services department, including quality improvement processes.

    6.Interviews, coaches, hires, trains, schedules, and evaluates food service staff. Makes recommendations for disciplinary action up to termination as necessary. Maintains appropriate records.

    7.Leads daily huddles/meetings with team.

    8.Maintains high standards of sanitation throughout the work areas, including all required UNC Health and ServSafe procedures. Ensures a safe environment for all employees and patients.

    9.Manages staff in accordance with Hospital's personnel policies and holds others accountable for the same.

    10.Responsible for employee time and attendance, payroll, and other records as assigned.

    11.Participates regularly in supervisory and other meetings.

    Preferences:

    Professional kitchen lead/supervisory experience

     

    Previous or current hospital experience in a lead/supervisory role

     

    Current ServSafe certification

    • High School diploma or GED

    Licensure/Certification Requirements:

    • No licensure or certification required.

    Professional Experience Requirements:

    • Two (2) years food service experience

    • Ability to learn quickly, effective oral communication skills

    • Strong interpersonal skills

    • Ability to work as part of a team
