The Opportunity
This position works out of our Abbott Park, IL location in GES Global Engineering Services division.
The **Senior Aircraft Technician** serves as a key member of the Aviation Maintenance team, reporting directly to the **Director of Aviation Maintenance** . This role is critical to ensuring the safety, reliability, and operational readiness of the company’s aircraft fleet. Working independently with minimal supervision, the technician is responsible for maintaining aircraft in strict compliance with FAA regulations, internal policies, and industry best practices. Additionally, they play an active role in supporting the department’s Safety Management System and mentoring junior technicians and Line Service Personnel.
This position requires successful completion of advanced training programs, including Master Technician certifications for each aircraft type and the Avionics Master Technician program. Beyond general fleet maintenance, the Senior Aircraft Technician assumes full responsibility for the airworthiness and upkeep of assigned aircraft and leads the resolution of Aircraft on Ground (AOG) situations as they arise.
The technician also serves as a **Cabin Safety Attendant (CSA)** on international and select domestic flights. While on the ground, they perform standard maintenance duties; during flight, they are responsible for ensuring passenger safety, delivering in-flight meal service, maintaining cabin cleanliness, coordinating emergency medical support if needed, and assisting the flight crew in managing technical stops efficiently.
What You’ll Work On
+ Follow the FAA approved Abbott Laboratories aircraft inspection program, ensure compliance with the applicable FAA regulations, manufacturers requirements, and company standards as set forth in the Abbott Laboratories Aviation Department Policy & Operations Manual. Maintain all aircraft maintenance records in proper format and in compliance with governmental regulation.
+ Perform tests, adjustments, repairs, inspections, and other general tasks related to the maintenance of complex airframe systems, turbine engines, avionics, and related systems on Company aircraft.
+ Required to troubleshoot the aircraft with a high degree of proficiency; ability to accurately resolve aircraft discrepancies by gathering all pertinent information from the aircraft using appropriate maintenance manuals, schematics and wiring diagrams as guidelines to identify the failed component and recommend solutions. Once identified the AMTE will be required to determine if the aircraft is airworthy and can be flown or if it can be dispatched using a Minimum Equipment List (MEL) or if the aircraft is unairworthy and unable to fly.
+ Assist management in planning and scheduling aircraft maintenance.
+ Ability to work within a team and develop individual employee ownership and leadership within the organization.
+ May hold additional coordinator responsibilities.
+ Assist with maintenance of inventories, material purchases, parts, and other items required to accomplish maintenance duties.
+ Strong working knowledge of advanced Avionics and digital aircraft systems.
+ Strong working knowledge of aviation regulations and documentation.
+ Possess a high degree of technological aptitude and ability to learn new systems and techniques.
+ Strong computer skills with the ability to effectively utilize software applications and programs in support of the flight operations and maintenance function.
+ Manage an aircraft assigned by Director of Maintenance
+ Mentoring Line Service personnel and Jr. Aircraft Maintenance Technical Engineer
+ Complete Master Technician Program for each company aircraft, Complete Avionics Master Technician.
+ High level of communication skills.
+ Ability to grasp key aviation safety concepts.
+ Pursue professional development.
+ Provide aircraft departure and arrival support.
+ Must be flexible in work schedules: nights, weekends, and holidays.
Required Qualifications
+ Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience preferred
+ FAA Airframe and Powerplant technician license (A&P)
+ Inspection Authorization (IA) Preferred.
+ A minimum of 10 years’ general experience in aircraft maintenance with 5 years’ experience directly involved with business aircraft.
+ Areas of knowledge to include all aspects of turbine powerplant and powerplant accessories, hydraulic pneumatic, electrical, avionics and communication systems.
+ Advanced Technical Training on company aircraft.

The base pay for this position is $85,300.00 – $170,700.00. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
