    Cleveland Clinic Cole Eye's surgical facility is designed to have all preoperative testing in one location and has 5 operating rooms that incorporate the latest equipment to perform safe and effective eye surgery. A caregiver in this role supports the delivery of eye care by performing pre-exam tests such as auto-refraction, lensometry, intraocular pressure checks, and ocular imaging. Responsibilities include collecting patient medical and vision histories, verifying visual acuity, entering data into electronic health records, and maintaining exam room cleanliness and supply levels. This position may also administer eye drops as directed by the optometrist and assist with front desk coordination.

     

    A caregiver in this position works weekdays, 7:30am - 4:00pm.

    A caregiver who excels in this role will:

    + Provide professional nursing care in an ambulatory setting.

    + Assess health status, complete nursing assessments, perform telephone triage and establish care plans.

    + Administer medications and treatments.

    + Initiate CPR and other emergency measures.

    + Notify the physician and/or Licensed Independent Provider (LIP) of abnormal findings.

    + Assist with specialized diagnostic procedures, therapeutic procedures and specialized patient care equipment.

    + Develop, evaluate, adapt and document health education and provide it to patients and families.

    + Cover other nursing roles within the department.

    + Travel within the region to support physician clinics and surgical procedures, as needed.

    Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

    + High School Diploma or GED

    + Minimum of one year experience in an optometry and/or ophthalmic setting providing direct patient care.

    + OR Additional formal education or training in optometry and/or ophthalmology may substitute for some or all of the stated experience.

    + Demonstrated skill in performing pre-tests such as auto-refraction, visual acuity, and tonometry

    + Experience using EMRs for patient intake and documentation, along with regularly stocking, cleaning, and maintaining clinical and reception areas.

    Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

    + Basic computer skills

    + Strong interpersonal skills with coworkers, patients, and providers

    + Demonstrates professional integrity

    + Adheres to safe work practices

    + Maintains a professional and organized work environment

    Physical Requirements:

    + Manual dexterity to operate office equipment and PC.

    + Ability to lift and transport up to 25 pounds.

    + May require extended periods of standing, walking or sitting.

    + Visual acuity, including the ability to distinguish colors.
