POSITION DETAILS
New York City College of Technology of the City University of New York (CUNY), a comprehensive college in downtown Brooklyn offering associate and baccalaureate degrees, invites applications for a Student Disability Services Specialist.
The Student Disability Services Specialist serves as a key leader within the Center for Student Accessibility (CSA), supporting the academic success and personal development of students with disabilities. The Center's primary mission is to support the educational goals for enrolled students with disabilities through access, empowerment, resources, advocacy, collaboration and outreach throughout the College, the University and the community at large. The Center aids in the areas of enrollment, academic advisement, tutoring, assistive technologies and testing accommodations.
Reporting to the CSA director, the Student Disability Services Specialist’s responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:
+ Oversee reasonable accommodations for students with disabilities in accordance with ADA and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and recent ADA Amendments Act of 2008 (ADAAAA) such as note takers, readers, scribes, sign language interpreters, and other services as needed.
+ In collaboration with the director of CSA, conduct intake assessments and review documentation.
+ Assist students in understanding their disabilities to facilitate discussion of their academic and personal concerns related to disability.
+ Provide information, referral, and support to prospective and enrolled students with disabilities.
+ Track services and assess program outcomes.
+ Lead the planning and implementation of campus-wide events such as Disability Awareness Month; develop marketing strategies and recruitment efforts to promote CSA services and events.
+ Promote student awareness of pertinent events within and outside the college via e-mail and print communications.
Ability to work a flexible schedule to include evening and weekend hours is expected.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree and four years' related experience required.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
+ Master's degree in Disability Studies, Social Work, Counseling or related field
+ Experience in a diverse higher education setting, with prior experience in coordinating and evaluating college-level programs
+ Knowledge of best practices in disability services implementation, with an emphasis on research, assessment, and data-informed decision making, particularly in the areas of learning disabilities and autism spectrum conditions
CUNY TITLE OVERVIEW
Assists with planning and providing a comprehensive program of services for students with disabilities.
- Assists with daily supervision of the unit, including budgets, personnel supervision, and facilities/equipment management
- Provides guidance and advisement to student organizations, administrators, faculty and others on concerns and issues related to students with special needs
- Interacts with counselors, disability accommodations specialists, and external community organizations to maintain a broad inventory of available services
- Presents programs and workshops, and prepares communications to students and others promoting the goals of the unit
- Organizes and provides for assistive technology and interpretive services
- May develop and/or review individual educational plans that incorporate individually designed academic support services and accommodations within the guidelines of the American with Disabilities Act (ADA)
- Performs related duties as assigned.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
$75,465 - $90,375. Salary commensurate with education and experience.
CUNY is in the process of implementing salary schedule increases. Once implemented, salaries of eligible employees will be adjusted by 6.09%, with additional increases of 3.25% effective 9/01/2025 and 3.5% effective 9/01/2026, in accordance with the terms of the PSC-CUNY collective bargaining agreement.
