    Job Description

    Position Title: Athletic Director

     

    Salary Range: AP Salary Schedule

     

    Contract Length: Administrator Contract

    Supervisor: School Principal

     

    Position Summary: Assists the principal, as a member of the administrative team, in leading the school community toward a safe and positive learning environment in which students, staff, and the larger community have and achieve high expectations for success in Athletics. Develops a working relationship with all athletic department staff. Acts as the liaison and primary administrator for the development and operation of the athletic program through strong school, feeder, community, and collegiate involvement.

    Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

    + Be a source of guidance to students and staff.

    + Provide sound leadership in the area of sportsmanship, leadership, and character development.

    + Develop feeder school athletic program and collaborate and communicate with feeder principals.

    + Develop an annual marketing plan to promote and recruit for the school’s athletic program.

    + Supervise the monitoring of academic eligibility and study table requirements and assist coaches in helping athletes secure college admission.

    + Ensure coaches connect and expose students to all collegiate level environments and recruiters. This includes NAIA Division 1 and Division 2, NCAA Division 1, Division 2 , and Division 3 and NJCAA.

    + Seek, obtain, and keep current IIAA certifications: RAA, CAA, CMAA.

    + Administer the Athletic Behavioral Code consistently.

    + Develop a working knowledge of Title IX and insure compliance.

    + Demonstrate loyalty to coaches and administrators, maintain confidentiality, and show concern for the well-being of all.

    + Assist in providing professional growth and development opportunities for coaches and athletic staff, including regular coaches meetings, to help create an environment of collaboration and communication.

    + Work and communicate closely with the administration of the school and corporation. Supervise, coordinate, and direct the overall athletic program of the school, including activities conducted by head coaches on behalf of intermediate schools and their personnel.

    + Have a working knowledge of all applicable National Federation, IHSAA, NIC, NCAA, and local rules governing the interscholastic athletic program and represent the administration at all required national and local meetings.

    + Keep an accurate permanent record of teams, individuals, and accomplishments to serve as an archival document for the athletic history of the school.

    + Coordinate the scheduling of practices, contests, and other use of facilities. Develop and maintain an annual operating budget and monitor and maintain the building’s athletic/facilities usage calendar.

    + Provide leadership for instruction and school improvement as directed by the principal.

    + Oversee day-to-day responsibilities for discipline, student supervision, staff evaluation and coaching staff evaluations, and school operations as assigned by the principal.

    + Confer with counselors and teachers to assist students in successfully completing requirements for graduation.

    + Communicate student issues with parents in a timely manner and work collaboratively with booster clubs and parent groups (Athletics, Band, PTO’s, and Cheerleading and Dance Groups). Hold Pre-season parent meetings.

    + Coordinate smaller learning community organization and/or other similar activities as assigned.

    + With the collaboration of athletic trainers, keep and audit accurate medical records of student athletes.

    + Collaborate with buildings and grounds to ensure facilities are safe.

    + Assist in the implementation and supervision of al extracurricular activities and ensure total security procedure implementation.

    + Build strong, positive relationships with students, staff, parents, and the community.

    + Develop annual athletic budget with fundraising activities to support the athletic department.

    + Other tasks and duties as assigned.

    Basic Qualifications:

    + Bachelor’s Degree.

    + Ability to plan, organize and implement a comprehensive high school feeder district athletic program.

    + Ability to interpret and apply applicable rules and regulations.

    + Ability to provide leadership and assume administrative responsibilities.

    + Experience working with diverse populations.

    + 3-5 years of successful administrative, teaching, and coaching experience.

    + Experience working with community agencies and groups. Experience with the day-to-day operation of schools.

    + Good human relations skills and strong knowledge of child development.

    + Demonstrated skill in building relationships, trust, and respect.

    + Ability to work effectively with individuals and groups.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    + Valid Indiana Teaching License.

    + Masters Degree and Valid Indiana Administrators License.

    + Bilingual Spanish, Bicultural, Biliterate.

    Physical Demands:

    Must be able to lift, push, and pull up to 25 lbs., sit, stand, walk, speak, hear, and use close vision.
