Farmingdale State College was recently awarded a five-year, $3 million grant from the U.S. Department of Education under the Developing Hispanic-Serving Institutions (DHSI) Program authorized by Title V. This is the largest federal grant in the history of the College. This landmark award will support the development of a new program at FSC, Education Milestones in Enrollment, Retention, and Graduation Excellence (EMERGE), which is designed to address barriers that may often prevent Hispanic and traditionally underserved students from achieving their academic goals. EMERGE will support the creation of a new Office of First Year and Transfer Year Experience on campus and will enable curricular innovation in support of improved college readiness.
The EMERGE Office at Farmingdale State College is seeking a dedicated First Year/Transfer Year Experience (FY/TYE) Coordinator. Reporting to the EMERGE Director and working in conjunction with the entire EMERGE team as well as faculty and staff across the College, the FY/TYE Coordinator will be an integral partner in leveraging strategies that have been proven to promote student success at Farmingdale State College. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with the Office of the Associate Provost (which EMERGE reports to), academic departments, and various functional areas to: 1) create and deliver First year and Transfer Year Experience Courses; 2) develop Freshmen Learning Communities; 3) provide leadership and direction on intrusive advising and academic success coaching; 4) foster learning support; 5) facilitate co-curricular and extra-curricular activities, and 6) provide supplemental oversight of program implementation.
Key responsibilities will include:
Instruction and Curriculum Support
+ Teach sections of First Year/Transfer Year Experience (FY/TYE) courses for incoming students.
+ Support design and assessment of FY/TYE course curricula.
+ Help develop standardized instructional materials for FY/TYE courses.
+ Establish and maintain a yearly FY/TYE implementation calendar.
+ Conduct discussion forums and surveys to gather stakeholder (i.e., faculty, staff, student) feedback on FY/TYE curriculum.
Faculty Recruitment and Assignment
+ Recruit, interview, and onboard faculty to teach FY/TYE courses.
+ Collaborate with campus departments to ensure FY/TYE instructor documentation is completed in a timely manner.
+ Coordinate with Registrar's office to establish FY/TYE course sections including scheduling classes and faculty assignments.
Faculty Programming
+ Design, distribute, and maintain FY/TYE resources (i.e., newsletter, Brightspace modules).
+ Build and maintain a FY/TYE community of practice centered on research-based, high-impact implementation methods.
+ Conduct regular FY/TYE faculty trainings and observations.
+ Establish faculty training calendar and resource packet.
Academic Success
+ Monitor students who receive Early Warning, UW/W, or F in FYE to ensure appropriate course completion and securing of support resources.
+ Utilize campus applications (i.e., CRM Advise, Banner) to inform programming and learning support.
+ Interface with campus stakeholders (Deans, Registrar, Department Chairs, Student Support Services, Dean of Students, etc.) to administer responsive programs, timely interventions, and a functional support structure for incoming students.

Job Requirements:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
+ Master's Degree.
+ Experience teaching at the college level.
+ Experience working within a college-related setting supporting student development and success (i.e., teaching, student advising, counseling, opportunity programs, academic support services, services for students with disabilities).
+ Experience supporting first year students or students transitioning to higher education.
+ Ability to work collaboratively across academic and administrative departments.
+ Strong oral and written communication as well as interpersonal skills.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
+ Minimum of 2 years' experience teaching at the college level.
+ Experience teaching introductory-level college courses.
+ Demonstrated program development and assessment skills.
+ Experience that reflects a commitment to diversity and inclusion initiatives.
Additional Information:
This is a full-time,12-month UUP position.
+ For the first 10 working days, beginning Monday, July 21, 2025, and ending Wednesday, July 30, 2025, applications will be limited to UUP Farmingdale.
+ CLOSING DATE FOR RECEIPT OF APPLICATIONS: Open Until Filled
+ SALARY: $80,000+ $4,000 in downstate location pay = $84,000 Total Compensation. Salary may increase commensurate with experience.
