Responsibilities
Organize and coordinate the activities and flow of work for coding functions.
+ Assist with daily operations and resolving issues and billing/coding discrepancies. Coordinate staff assignments to meet workload demands as indicated by volume statistics.
+ Serve as a liaison to managers and other departments to resolve coding issues, including coding inaccuracies and denial processing.
+ Assist team members with issues requiring immediate attention including resolving inconsistencies in documentation.
+ May abstract pertinent information from patient records. Assign and properly sequence codes for each diagnosis and procedure according to recognized rules and guidelines, using required classification systems.
+ Abide by the Standards of Ethical Coding as set forth by the American Health Information Management Association and adhere to official coding guidelines.
+ Keep abreast of and complies with coding guidelines and reimbursement reporting requirements
Requirements
Licensure / Certification / Registration:
Required Credential(s):
+ One or more of the following:
+ Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) credentialed from the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date.
+ Certified Professional Coder (CPC) credentialed from the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC) obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date.
+ Coder obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date.
+ Reg Health Info Admnstr credentialed from the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date.
+ Reg Health Info Tech credentialed from the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date.
Preferred Credential(s):
+ Reg Health Info Admnstr.
+ Reg Health Info Tech.
Education:
+ High School diploma equivalency and 3 years of cumulative experience OR Associate's degree/Technical degree and 1 year of experience OR 5 years of applicable cumulative job specific experience required.
Additional Preferences
We are seeking candidates who are certified coders (RHIA, RHIT< CPC) and have the ability to work independently, multi-task and have strong organizational skills.
Must have 4-6 years coding experience with knowledge of multi-specialties and teaching physician guidelines. A high level of accuracy, attention to detail and problems solving skills are essential for success in this dynamic department.
Supervisory experience is a plus.
