GENERAL SUMMARY
+ The RN - Specialty Program Coordinator (Neurology) performs various patient care activities and accommodative services by applying evidence-based practice to patient care with a knowledge base that supports sound clinical decisions. Specifically, designs inquiries and patient therapies that are the basis for developing clinical standards of care to promote the best care outcomes. This position performs a wide variety of patient care activities and accommodative services to support the Autism Diagnostic Clinic for follow-up care of the autism spectrum disorder pediatric patient population or the newborn brain institute patients or the Neuromuscular patient population for follow-up care. Demonstrates excellence in practice characterized by quality patient care and participation in formal and informal patient education. Reports to Practice Manager and works in close cooperation with and under the clinical guidance of the practice physician(s).
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
+ Utilizes professional knowledge to collect applicable data for identification of clinical problems and patient care outcome data.
+ Employ evidence-based standardized care plans and protocols to care episodes.
+ Create opportunities for continual learning.
+ Collaborates and coordinates program with a multidisciplinary team to provide quality patient care and services.
+ Provides developmentally appropriate psychosocial and clinical care.
+ Communicates among providers, patient, and community resources to enhance the care of the defined population.
+ Performs all other duties as assigned.
LICENSES AND/OR CERTIFICATIONS
+ Required Licenses and/or Certifications
+ Registered Nursing License in the State of Virginia or Registered Nurse holding a valid Compact State license required at time of hire.
+ Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) training required at time of hire or must be obtained within 45 days of hire.
+ Preferred Licenses and/or Certifications
+ None preferred.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
+ Required Education and Experience
+ Two or more years of progressive clinical experience in the related specialty area required.
+ At time of hire, a record of completion and/or enrollment for all education, licenses, training and/or certifications is required.
+ Continuous re-certification and/or maintenance of state licensures, certifications, educational and application requirements is required during employment.
+ Preferred Education and Experience
+ Bachelor’s degree in Nursing from an accredited program, college or university preferred.
+ Three to five years of progressive clinical experience in the related specialty area preferred.
+ Pediatric experience preferred.
+ Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
+ Professional knowledge of nursing theory and practice as it relates to the area of expertise. Highly motivated, enthusiastic, and empathetic team player who takes initiative.
+ Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
+ Excellent time management skills, able to shift priorities and able to work independently and problem solve in a fast paced, fluid environment.
+ Possesses strong verbal, written, and interpersonal skills as well as, the ability to interact with and build collegial relationships with diverse individuals.
+ Demonstrates skills necessary to effectively communicate clinical data to physicians and other health care providers.
WORKING CONDITIONS
+ Expected to work in a patient care environment with minimal exposure to environmental hazards such as, but not limited to, excessive noise, dust, or extremes in temperatures. Exposure to communicable diseases and moderately adverse working conditions due to the need to perform certain patient care activities.
