Entry Level Software Engineer Salary Range: $55k - $65k Location: William J Hughes Technical Center for Advanced Aerospace Clearance: Enhanced Public Trust (SF-85) Employment Type: Full-Time Summary: AS&T is seeking a skilled and proactive Software Engineer to support the FAA’s Commercial Space Operations Research and Development Lab. As the space industry continues to increase the cadence of launch and reentry operations in the US National Airspace System, AS&T provides critical research and development, data analysis, and safety analysis to ensure continued safe and efficient NAS operations. This role involves managing the lab infrastructure and supporting the development of tools for the FAA’s Office of Commercial Space Transportation. Key Responsibilities:
+ Design, development, testing and deployment of the computer software.
+ Provide feasibility analysis, problem definition, requirements development, and solution development.
+ Document and demonstrate solutions by developing documentation, flowcharts, layouts, diagrams, charts, code comments and clear code.
+ Prepare and install solutions by determining and designing system specifications, standards, and programming.
+ Improve operations by conducting systems analysis.
+ Recommend changes in policies and procedures.
+ Develop software solutions by studying information needs; conferring with users; studying systems flow, data usage, and work processes by following the software development lifecycle.
Required Qualifications:
+ Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, or a related field OR equivalent work experience.
+ 0-2 years of programming experience.
+ Experience managing virtual environments.
+ Strong willingness to learn various concepts across multiple disciplines in the technology field.
+ Excellent communication and documentation skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
+ Strong understanding of networking concepts, DNS, load balancing, and firewalls.
+ Familiarity with tools such as Jenkins, Ansible, Git, Bitbucket, and SonarQube.
+ Experience supporting FAA systems or working in a regulated federal IT environment.
+ Knowledge of commercial space operations or aerospace/aviation systems.
+ Familiarity with SDLC and Agile methodologies
+ Security+ or similar certification.
+ Knowledge of web development design frameworks such as Vite, React, and Express.
+ Knowledge of the following programming languages: Java, Javascript, YAML and PHP.
+ Knowledge of both Fedora based Linux distributions, such as CentOS, RedHat, and RockyLinux
+ Experience with Windows operating system
+ Familiarity with system administration concepts such as DNS, Active Directory, and LDAP servers
+ Knowledge of Virtual Machine management software such as VMWare ESXi and VCenter.
Work Schedule:
+ Flexible hours with core hours between 9am and 3pm
+ Will require non-standard hours as well (could include nights, weekends, holidays)
