Duties Description As a Recreation Therapist you would plan and conduct activities for resident groups, working individually or as a member of a treatment team or treatment program. Participate in MDS, Care Plans, initial resident assessments, continuous observation, documenting behavior changes, cognitive skills, collaborating with other disciplines and care givers of the overall care of the Veterans as well as assisting other Recreation Therapists in all activity programs. The goal of each program is to bring about positive changes in a resident’s mental, physical and/or social behavior.
Minimum Qualifications Active list candidate on the NYS Department of Civil Service Recreation Therapist list OR Eligible for transfer under section 70.1 of the Civil Service law OR via Helps Program non-competitive appointment 1. A bachelor’s degree in Therapeutic Recreation; Or2. A bachelor’s degree in Recreation, Physical Education or Adaptive Physical Education AND one year of experience in planning and administering a therapeutic recreation program which involved developing and coordinating therapeutic recreational activities for geriatric patients/residents, individuals with developmental disabilities, individuals with psychiatric disabilities, individuals that are physically challenged, or individuals in treatment for alcoholism or substance abuse; Or3. Current credentials as a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) issued by the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification (NCTRC), 7 Elmwood Drive, New York, NY 10956.
