Description

We are looking for an experienced Senior Accountant to join our team in Berkeley, California. This role is ideal for someone with a strong background in managing financial processes for non-profit organizations and expertise in grant accounting. You will play a vital part in ensuring accurate financial reporting and maintaining compliance with funding guidelines.

Responsibilities:

+ Lead or support month-end and year-end closings, including journal entries, reconciliations, and financial statements.

+ Reconcile bank and balance sheet accounts monthly; ensure accurate general ledger transactions.

+ Assist in preparing financial reports for internal and external stakeholders.

+ Support external audits (financial, tax, 401k, workers comp).

+ Analyze financial data and operations to improve performance and sustainability.

+ Build financial models and streamline processes using Excel.

+ Support budget preparation and reporting.

+ Handle ad hoc financial analysis and reports.

+ Oversee grant and fund tracking, compliance, reporting, and cost allocations.

+ Prepare billing, funder reports, and audit schedules.

+ Supervise and mentor accounting staff; ensure high work quality.

+ Understand and serve as backup for all accounting functions (AP, AR, payroll, etc.).

+ Contribute to or lead special projects as needed.

+ Perform other assigned duties.

Requirements

+ Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field.

+ At least 5 years of accounting experience, including 3+ years in nonprofit organizations with multiple programs.

+ Strong understanding of accounting principles and functions.

+ Preferred experience in healthcare and revenue cycle management.

+ Background check required upon job offer.

+ Must have valid driver’s license, insured personal vehicle, and a clean driving record.

+ Local travel occasionally required.
