• IDMS - Mainframe Systems Programmer

    Description We are looking for an experienced IDMS - Mainframe Systems Programmer to join our team on a long-term contract basis. This position offers the opportunity to work within a government environment in Des Moines, Iowa, supporting critical legacy systems while contributing to their ongoing compliance and functionality. The ideal candidate will possess deep expertise in mainframe technologies and demonstrate a strong ability to analyze, document, and optimize complex systems.

    Responsibilities:

    • Analyze and interpret legacy mainframe system logic, including COBOL programs, Bachman diagrams, and IDMS database definitions.

    • Extract and document embedded business rules from mainframe programs, third-party utilities, and other data manipulation tools.

    • Collaborate with business teams to align system functionality with federal and state requirements.

    • Provide detailed documentation to facilitate system rewrites and ensure compliance with quality standards.

    • Perform on-call duties to support nightly and weekend batch cycles.

    • Communicate effectively with multiple teams through precise verbal and written updates.

    • Work independently to learn and adapt to new systems, processes, and business functionality.

    • Support the transition from legacy mainframe systems to modern platforms while maintaining current system compliance.

    • Ensure all tasks are completed on schedule and adhere to established standards. Requirements • Minimum 10 years of experience in IDMS and mainframe systems programming.

    • Proficiency in COBOL, CICS, CA-IDMS, and CA-7 software.

    • Strong knowledge of integrated database management systems and mainframe technologies.

    • Proven ability to document system logic, flows, and business rules with exceptional attention to detail.

    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to coordinate effectively across teams.

    • Ability to work independently and take initiative in learning new systems and processes.

    • Demonstrated experience in performing on-call duties for batch cycle support.
