    This is an anticipated vacancy on August 1, 2025.

     

    This position is located in the New Hanover County Maintenance Unit located in Castle Hayne. Employee will be responsible for planning, organizing and gathering information for the RMIP/HMIP program in the county. Duties will include crossline pipes that need to be replaced, roads that will need ditching, shoulders cut, and stump holes repaired ahead of resurfacing and preservation work. Also need to acquire hydrology reports by email for failing crossline, call 8-1-1 for locates, gather MCDC documents before projects, determine proper pipe type and correct pipe sizes that are used in our roadways. Employee will supervise all work activities for one or more maintenance crews in complex transportation maintenance work covering the maintenance and repair of State maintained roads and pipes. Work will be, but not limited to, working in close proximity of high volumes of traffic and heavy construction equipment; ability to climb, bend, and traverse steep and uneven terrain; ability to work in extreme temperature conditions. Employee will be responsible for maintaining FR1101 time sheets and records. They will be responsible for checking, maintaining and ordering inventory to ensure work is not delayed. Assist with the planning of CARS crews in the absence of other supervisors. Employee will help the Assistant with the TW on-the-job training, conduct performance reviews, work site interviews, and recommend new staff. Other responsibilities include budgeting, documenting expenditures for multiple crews using the Maintenance Management System (MMS) to assign task numbers and to compare actual cost with established guidelines, and aid Engineer by analyzing expenditures and altering work crew assignments to maintain fiscal responsibilities. Employee must utilize NCDOT required Proper Protective Equipment, following OSHA and NCDOT Safety Policy and Procedures Manual.

    Additional Expectations:

    This position is subject to Emergency Call Back and scheduled night work during adverse weather or other extreme circumstances, which includes responding to emergencies such as snow and ice removal, downed trees, etc. This job will require work to be performed while suspended at moderate heights, confined areas, over water, in water, in extreme heat and cold, and during inclement weather. May require work during non-traditional work hours including nights, weekends, and holidays. The ability to exert in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/ or up to 50 pounds of force frequently and/ or in excess of 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Safety toe footwear is required within 30 days of employment. Employee must have ability to act upon both verbal & written communication. Employee must have ability to traverse steep & uneven terrain. Employee must have ability to lift 50 lbs. Employee must be able to work in extreme temperature conditions.

    High school or General Educational Development diploma and seven years of directly related experience; or an equivalent combination of training and directly related experience. Experience must be related to functional area of the work that the position will supervise.
