• Simulation Software Engineer

    METECS (Houston, TX)


    METECS is seeking a mid-level Simulation Software Engineer to support NASA’s Orion spacecraft as part of the Artemis program. In this role, you’ll help develop, test, and maintain high-fidelity simulations that model Orion’s complex systems and interactions with the Space Launch System (SLS), Co-Manifested Payloads (CPLs), and the Gateway lunar space station.

     

    This position spans the full software development lifecycle—from systems engineering and requirements definition to implementation, CI/CD support, and integration testing.

    Key Responsibilities:

    + Design, develop, and maintain simulation software for Orion spacecraft systems.

    + Collaborate with engineers across disciplines to model and validate spacecraft behavior.

    + Implement and optimize software using Python and C++.

    + Support integration and verification testing to ensure simulation accuracy and reliability.

    + Apply lessons learned from previous Orion missions to improve tools and processes for Artemis III and IV.

    + Contribute to a high-performing, mission-driven team environment.

    Required Qualifications:

    + Bachelor’s degree in computer science, aerospace engineering, or a related field.

    + 3–7 years of experience in software development, ideally in aerospace or simulation environments.

    + Proficiency in Python scripting and C++ development.

    + Experience working in Linux-based environments.

    + Familiarity with hardware/software integration and troubleshooting.

    + Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset.

    Desired Qualifications:

    + Experience with containerization (e.g., Docker).

    + Familiarity with machine emulators such as SIMICS or QEMU.

    + Background in spaceflight systems or aerospace simulation is a plus.

     

    Citizenship or lawful permanent resident required due to federal position.
