    About the Indiana Civil Rights Commission (ICRC):

    The Indiana Civil Rights Commission enforces the Indiana civil rights laws and provides education and services to the public in an effort to ensure equal opportunity for all Hoosiers and visitors to the State of Indiana. The Indiana Civil Rights Commission will be an important societal influence working to eliminate illegal discrimination in Indiana.

    Role Overview:

    You will provide timely, appropriate, and professional responses to all public contact with the Commission. As an Intake/Case Control specialist you will answer questions, make referrals, draft complaints, and forward calls to appropriate Commission staff. The Intake/Case Control specialist serves as a professional staff member within the Commission and provides a front-line response to the public for questions and issues concerning the Commission. This position requires a strong level of organization as well as interpersonal skills.

    Salary Statement:

    The salary for this position traditionally starts at $42,900.00 but may be commensurate with education or work experience.

     

    A Day in the Life:

    The essential responsibilities of the job are:

    + Effectively interview potential complainants by telephone, or in person.

    + Provides excellent customer service, via phone and in person.

    + Gathers documents relevant to the discrimination charge.

    + Analyzes and applies relevant laws to establish jurisdiction over cases for ICRL enforcement areas.

    + Send Notice of Complaints and interrogatories to relevant parties.

    + Research databases for correct contact information for relevant parties and witnesses.

    + Prepare investigative work case files for investigations.

    + Closes case files by sending out closure letters to the parties and maintaining the case file before sending them out to records and archives.

    + Drafting of Charges of discrimination based on the information collected from individuals.

    + Organizes and assists voluntary groups created by helping advance the public policy of the State of Indiana as set out in the Civil Rights Law.

    + Serves as a resource person for lower-level specialists and technicians.

    What You'll Need for Success:

    You must meet the following requirement to be considered for employment:

    + Thorough knowledge of, and ability to interpret and apply, the Indiana Civil Rights Law, Commission Rules, and Regulations and EEOC court decisions falling within the area of Civil Rights.

    + Specialized knowledge of the principles, practices, and past and current trends of the Civil Rights Field on a state and national level.

    + Ability to analyze and summarize information and the application of Law in the areas of employment, credit, housing, education, and public accommodations.

    + Ability to understand legal concepts and to relate prior decisions to specific cases.

    + Ability to counsel persons who make an inquiry at the Commission office regarding civil rights complaints and to assist them in filing a complaint.

    + Effective communication skills.

    + Able to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.

    Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:

    This role may be utilized in a supervisory capacity based on agency needs.
