Description
The City of Garden City is accepting applications for Warehouse Clerk with the Electric Department. This position is responsible for maintaining a clean and orderly work environment inside the facility and around the facility. This is done by maintaining records, managing inventory, cleaning and maintenance of facility and grounds and conducting facility inspections. Along with assisting in facility maintenance at different locations for both Water and Electric.
Examples of Duties
+ Assists in maintaining records (electronic & paper) on all materials used by three Department, tools, tool repairs, and outside inventory.
+ Assists in maintaining and restocking all inventory, hardware, and janitorial supplies for the Utility Service Center.
+ Assists in maintaining and cleaning warehouse, shop areas including office and restroom areas, and exterior of the facility.
+ Maintain grounds at Utility Service Center, including mowing, trimming, and snow removal.
+ Maintain vegetation control at Utility Service Center and assigned substations.
+ Assist with minor building upkeep at Water Division sites and the Jameson Energy Center.
+ Assist with ensuring the department's Safety Data Sheets (SDS) are in compliance.
+ Assists in taking environmental oil samples from transformers, not in service.
+ Assists in running forklift and bobcat.
+ Assists with contractors needing material, running errands, and covering phones.
+ Assists in weekly, monthly, and quarterly facility inspections. Including HVAC filters, eyewash stations, fire extinguishers, and equipment inspections.
Typical Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Computer proficiency. Basic knowledge of electrical circuits materials and tools. General Knowledge of overhead and underground distribution systems, substations, and water delivery systems. Some knowledge of Warehouse operations. Ability to install and maintain warehouse inventory system; ordering, re-ordering, shipping, receiving, maintain records, issue parts, tools, and materials. Ability to understand verbal and written instructions. Must be able to lift up to 70 lbs. and use proper personal safety equipment and practices. Forklift and pallet lift, hand tools, copy and fax machines, calculator, office computer with MS Windows, Mapcon, and MS Word.
Education, Certification, and Experience: High school diploma or GED; and 2 years of experience to include warehouse inventory control, records keeping, on-time ordering and computer proficiency; a Commercial Driver’s License required or ability to acquire within 30 days.
Supplemental Information
Environment: Work is performed in all types of weather. Majority of work is indoors in the warehouse. On occasion will work outdoors in all types of weather. Extreme, moderate and temperate heat and cold; hail, snow, winds, sand, ice, mud and dust. Surfaces: Wood, asphalt, concrete, tile (inside). Outdoor surfaces include asphalt, concrete, sand, gravel, dirt, and grass
Equipment/Tools Used: Equipment: Bobcat, forklift, trailers of various lengths, generators, power tools, lawnmower, and weed eater. (Manual) hacksaw, bow saw, cross-cut saw, open-end wrenches, nut drivers, combination wrenches, screwdriver, knockout tool, floor jack, pry bar, hammer, tin snips, scissors, wire brush, ladders, pole slings, two-wheel dolly, four-wheel hand cart, knife crimpers, rope, sheave, pulleys, paper punch, computer, printer, copier, fax, e-mail, files, typewriter, calculator, pens, pencils, highlighters.
Physical Characteristics: Ability to lift up to 70 lbs. on a regular basis; push, pull, sit, stocking, stand, look, hear, type, write, drive, stand for extended periods, climb ladders, change light bulbs, reach, hold, sit and kneel.
