The Department of Radiation Control is currently seeking a full time Hazardous Material Technician to work in Miami. The Haz Mat Technician assists with the handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous and universal waste. Moreover, the incumbent monitors compliance of fuel storage tanks, implements waste minimization and recycling, monitors compliance of biomedical waste disposal, provides emergency response for chemical releases, and trains University personnel.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
+ Picks up waste and surplus chemicals from generating laboratories and facilities and delivers to assigned regulated storage areas.
+ Performs weekly inspection of the regulated hazardous and universal waste storage areas.
+ Maintains and controls supplies required for hazardous material management and emergency response.
+ Performs quarterly reviews of all storage tank inspection logs and associated monitoring systems.
+ Monitors and complies with hazardous, universal, and biomedical waste disposal procedures.
+ Conducts clearance inspections for departing University employees.
+ Responds to emergency chemical releases, odor complaints, and other safety concerns.
+ Conducts training per environmental regulations for University faculty, staff, and students.
+ Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.
Department Specific Functions
+ Monthly distribution and collection of personnel monitoring devices.
+ Radiation surveys of patients treated with radioactive material.
+ Pick-ups of radioactive waste from nuclear medicine facilities.
+ Identification, disposal, and surveys of radioactive waste.
+ Weekly wipes testing of nuclear medicine facilities.
+ Participates in rotating on-call schedule for radiation emergencies.
+ Assist in case of any Weapon of Mass Destruction (WMP) emergency.
+ Manage the exchange of personnel dosimeters for physicians and healthcare personnel.
+ Perform surveys of patients and facilities after radiation procedures/therapies are given.
+ Patients’ waste and used linens collection.
+ Contamination survey and remediations of the areas.
+ Ensures accuracy that internal, federal guidelines and State-related activities are met.
+ Maintains current knowledge, communicates changes, and serves as an educational resource of national and local rules, documentation guidelines, and compliance regulations.
+ Assists the leaders in creating the annual compliance and audit work plans.
+ Analyzes audit outcomes and proactively identifies trends.
+ Generates, organizes, and presents review-finding reports.
+ Assists the leaders to analyze review outcomes, proactively identifying trends and high-risk areas.
+ Conducts detailed research and reviews of policies and procedures in support of the UHealth Compliance Program.
+ Identifies and reports general compliance issues that may arise through the work process; writes and revises standard operating procedures.
+ Radiation waste management.
+ Other duties as assigned.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
High School diploma or equivalent
Experience:
Minimum 1 year of relevant experience

+ Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form
+ Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.
