    Criminal History Analyst

     

    Field Services Section

     

    Chicago Police Department

     

    Number of Positions: 1 (Additional vacancies possible pending budget approval)

     

    This position is open to the public and all current city employees covered under the City’s Collective Bargaining Agreement with AMERICAN FEDERATION OF STATE, COUNTY, AND MUNICIPAL EMPLOYEES (AFSCME) – BARGAINING UNIT 1, 3, 4 & 5. Only employees in City job titles in this bargaining unit are eligible to bid.

    Under general supervision, the Criminal History Analyst routinely queries numerous criminal history databases of various law enforcement agencies when gathering the information needed to post on the Chicago criminal history record. These functions include:

    Essential Duties:

    • Querying databases for outstanding investigative alerts and warrants.

    • Researching Domestic Violence charges and Unlawful Use of Weapons (UUW’s) upgrade investigations by querying various criminal justice databases systems for arrest and conviction information.

    • Updating the Chicago Criminal History Records via the CLEAR system with information gathered from various databases.

    • Conducting alias name checks on the Illinois Law Enforcement Agency Database (LEADS).

    • Verification of identity for persons in custody for Chicago warrant arrests.

    • Researching parole and probation terms via criminal justice systems.

    • Serves as liaison to other law enforcement agencies for requests related to criminal history records

    • identifies and corrects errors on criminal history records and notifies appropriate agencies

    **Location:** Chicago Police Headquarters

    **Address:** 3510 S Michigan Ave

    **Shift:** 10PM-6AM Sunday-Thursday **OR** Tuesday-Saturday

    **THIS POSITION IS IN THE CAREER SERVICE** .

    Qualifications:

    Minimum Qualifications:

    I have at least five years of work experience researching and updating criminal history records. **OR**

    I have an Associate's Degree from an accredited college, PLUS at least three years of work experience researching and updating criminal history records. **OR**

    I have a Bachelor's Degree, Master's or Doctorate from an accredited college or university, PLUS at least one year of work experience researching and updating criminal history records.

    Preference will be given to candidates possessing the following:

    + Bachelor’s Degree

    + Proficiency (at least an intermediate level) with a Personal Computer (PC) utilizing Windows OS, email, office, and internet applications

    + Previous work experience in a position conducting adjudication, which includes interpreting criminal charges, dispositions, and sentences

    + Previous work experience in the field of Law Enforcement related to the duties of the position

    **Residency Requirement:** All employees of the City of Chicago must be actual residents of the City as outlined in 2-152-050 of the City of Chicago Municipal Code. Proof of residency will be required.
