    Description

    The Construction Safety Specialist is responsible for assisting with development, implementation, and oversight of the organization’s health and safety program, ensuring compliance with all applicable regulatory requirements, and fostering a culture of safe operation within the organization. The Construction Safety Specialist will support both High Country Fence and Lewis organizations. Providing support and guidance for projects and crews while influencing team members to create safety ownership across all levels of the organization. This position has extensive travel, up to 85% of the time, across our geographical footprint.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

    + Work directly with project and crew leadership to ensure consistent use of systems, programs, and processes.

    + Engage crews and leadership to define processes that motivate working towards common goals

    + Work with Project Managers to establish project-specific safety plans during initial project mobilization and as needed during the project.

    + Trend data to identify and recommend targeted improvement strategies that drive improved performance in both leading and lagging indicators

    + Partner with project and crew leadership to identify areas of improvement

    + Work with team members to ensure a high level of accuracy and engagement on hazard identification and control

    + Assist in problem-solving, including, risk assessments, incident investigations and corrective action development

    + Work with project and crew leadership to develop and implement processes to reduce and eliminate repeat incidents

    + Audit sites while focusing on conditions and behaviors to reflect best in class.

    + Assist with customer-specific safety needs and expectations as required

    + Assist leadership with quality safety training and toolbox talks

    + Work with projects and crews to support proactive near-miss reporting

    + Assist with milestone recognition programs focusing on leading activities

    + Foster excitement throughout the organization by taking safety to new heights through cutting-edge ideas and tactics

    TRAVEL:

    + This role is designed to be primarily travel-based. Ability to travel to job sites throughout North America. Weekly travel is estimated to be 85%+. Weekend travel is not routine.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:

    + Ability to research and comprehend organizational and regulatory requirements

    + Strong interpersonal skills required, and excellent written and verbal communication skills

    + Computer skills for preparing presentations, data management, and report preparation. Proficient in MS Windows, Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint

    + Adaptable and able to work outdoors in a field environment

    + Self-starting, motivated, with a strong desire to be part of a team and to influence improvement.

    + Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer and prolonged periods of standing and walking around project site with uneven surfaces

    + Must be able to traverse and inspect all areas of jobsite in all types of weather; this may include walking, climbing, reaching, bending, crawling, or stretching

    + Exposure to characteristic construction site dangers

    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    + Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Occupational Health, Environmental Affairs, or a related field, or equivalent experience in lieu of a degree

    + 3+ years of experience in Environmental Health & Safety, with at least 2+ years in construction. 5+ years of experience preferred

    + Demonstrated success in managing large projects and initiatives, documenting procedures, and building and executing safety programs is a plus

    + Knowledge of federal, state, and local EHS-related regulations and compliance requirements (NFPA/OSHA/EPA/ANSI).

    + OSHA 510 & 500 preferred

    + BCSP - CSP, ASP, CHST (Construction health and Safety Technician), STS-C (Safety Trained Supervisor), preferred

    + Knowledge of Human Performance

    + Bilingual skills (Spanish written and oral) are an advantage

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to an outdoor environment in various weather conditions.

    COMPENSATION: $75,000 - $104,000

    North Coast Holdings regularly evaluates our compensation and benefit packages to ensure we remain competitive. Starting pay will be based on a candidate’s experience, skills and education.
