    Position Description

    The Maintenance & Repair Leader - Parks/Grounds is a full time Civil Service position in the Metro Parks and Recreation department. This position is a first line supervisor who participates with and leads a crew maintaining park grounds, athletic fields, and facilities. The incumbent will operate with a limited amount of direct supervision. Performs related duties as required.

     

    Metro Parks offers a variety of facilities and programs throughout Davidson County including after-school programs for children, cultural arts classes, nature programs, sports leagues, ice hockey, fitness classes, art galleries, programs and services for seniors, as well as for those with disabilities. Currently, the department oversees nearly 16,000 acres of open space, including 178 parks and 100 miles of greenway. Metro Parks’ mission is to sustainably and equitably provide everyone in Nashville with an inviting network of parks and greenways that offer health, wellness, and quality of life through recreation, conservation, and community.

    Typical Duties

    + Installing and repairing various equipment and facilities.

    + Grading and preparing athletic fields and courts.

    + Collecting and disposing of trash and debris in parks, facilities, and other public Grounds and right of-ways.

    + Inspecting parks, playgrounds, and facilities for necessary repairs and safety.

    + Maintaining all park grounds, public grounds, and facilities as needed.

    + Mowing, trimming grass, hedges, trees, and shrubs; Removing trees, shrubs, structures, and debris.

    + Grading, laying sod, seeds, and all related work to reclaim and establish turf areas.

    + Watering and spraying herbicides and chemicals as needed.

    + Maintaining Time and Attendance records; records and reports for work scheduled and completed.

    + Evaluates, counsels, and trains employees.

     

    This position requires moderate physical ability and agility, requires working outdoors in all weather conditions, and may be required to work weekends and/or overtime. The incumbent must have the ability to stoop, climb, and stand for long periods of time.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Education and Experience

     

    High School Diploma or equivalent and three (3) years of verifiable semi-skilled construction, or service-maintenance work which must have included operation of equipment and practical experience in grounds maintenance.

    LICENSES REQUIRED:

    Valid Driver's License

     

    NOTE: Applicants must obtain a TN Class A Driver’s License within 6 months of hire, and it must be maintained during employment. Failure to obtain the CDL within the six (6) month probationary period may result in automatic termination/dismissal. Candidates who possess or obtain a CDL license must be able to pass a drug/alcohol test and are subject to random testing.

     

    Candidates with accreditations earned in a foreign institute are encouraged to apply.

     

    Note: Per Metro Ordinance No. SO94-1078. All employees of the Metropolitan Government shall be residents of the State of Tennessee or become residents of the state within six (6) months of employment as a prerequisite to employment with the Metropolitan Government.
