Job Title: Railcar Welder

Type: Contract

Compensation: $30 - $35 hourly

Contractor Work Model: Onsite

Job Summary:

We are seeking a skilled and safety-conscious Railcar Welder to perform welding and fabrication tasks on railcars and related equipment. The ideal candidate will have experience with MIG and/or flux-core welding in an industrial or transportation setting, and be capable of interpreting blueprints, repair instructions, and safety protocols to ensure structural integrity and compliance with industry standards.

Key Responsibilities:

+ Perform MIG, stick, or flux-core welding on railcars including tank cars, hopper cars, and flatcars.

+ Repair or replace damaged or worn metal components on railcars according to specifications.

+ Use oxy-fuel cutting torches, grinders, and other tools to prep materials or remove defective welds.

+ Read and interpret blueprints, welding symbols, and work orders to complete assignments accurately.

+ Inspect and test welds to ensure strength and quality meet industry and regulatory standards (AAR, FRA, etc.).

+ Operate cranes, forklifts, and other equipment to position components as needed.

+ Maintain clean, safe, and organized work areas; adhere to OSHA and company safety policies at all times.

+ Complete documentation for work performed, including inspection reports and repair logs.

+ Collaborate with team members and supervisors to meet production and quality goals.

Required Qualifications:

+ High school diploma or equivalent (GED).

+ 1–3 years of welding experience in an industrial or transportation environment.

+ Proficient in MIG, stick, or flux-core welding.

+ Ability to pass a weld test administered on-site.

+ Familiarity with measuring tools (tape measures, squares, levels).

+ Basic understanding of mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems as they relate to railcars.

+ Ability to lift 50+ lbs and work in physically demanding conditions (climbing, crouching, confined spaces).
