    Job Title: Senior Accountant

    Type: Contract (6-months)

    Compensation: $89.00 - $92.00/hr.

     

    Contractor Work Model: Hybrid (In-office Tuesday–Thursday; remote Monday and Friday)

     

    System One is actively seeking an experienced Accountant for a contract position working with a leading utility company based in Minneapolis, MN. This role offers the opportunity to work in a high-impact, high-volume accounting environment, collaborating with a supportive team and gaining exposure to multiple business areas. Team includes 8 accountants and 3 team leads.

     

    The Accountant will serve as a team lead, primarily responsible for reviewing work from junior team members (Analyst I, Analyst II, and Accountants).

    Accountant Responsibilities:

    + Reviewing journal entries (800–900/month), account reconciliations, open invoice test work, troubleshooting accounting issues, posting accruals and reclasses into the ledger, and supporting 10–12 business areas.

    + Follows a monthly accounting cycle: mid-month involves reclassing expenses, end of month involves processing accruals, and the first few days of the month are focused on closing the fiscal month.

    + Reviews parked entries and ensures proper backup before posting.

    + Primarily internal support.

    + External billing comprises approximately 2% of the role.

    + Collaborates with peers, junior team members, and the manager.

    Accountant Required Qualifications:

    + 8–10 years of accounting experience, prior supervisory or team lead experience, experience reviewing journal entries, reconciliations, and accruals.

    + Familiarity with SAP ECC (preferred), SharePoint, MS Office, and Blackline (planned implementation).

    + Understanding of cash vs. accrual accounting

    Non-Technical Skills:

    + Attention to detail, team player, strong communication and problem-solving skills.

    + Ideal Background:

    + Corporate accounting experience preferred. Utility experience not required. Accounting degree or equivalent experience.
