Responsibilities
Position Summary:
The Director of Nursing will provide the strategic direction for clinical support for Dignity Health Medical Foundation Clinical Staff for all clinics throughout California in the areas of clinical professional development; clinical support and quality standards; consults with and determines strategy for complex new practices and/or existing practices entering into new delivery models; back office clinical workflows, policies and standard operating procedures. This position reports directly to the Vice President of Ambulatory Quality. The Director of Nursing must establish strong partnerships with the Clinicians and operational leaders to bring excellence to support safe patient care and to promote a positive patient experience.
Responsibilities may include:
- Provide strategic oversight of clinical services to ensure adherence to federal, state and local healthcare related laws and regulatory requirements, and to accreditation standards as appropriate. Maintains current knowledge of administrative practices and remains up to date on new developments in Ambulatory Services and incorporates such in the scope of services.
- Utilizes knowledge of process improvement methodologies (PDSA, Lean and/or other methodologies) to guide the Clinical Support Teams in assessing new clinics (mergers and acquisitions), implementing policies and SOPs in existing clinics (as needed) and/or responding to initiatives, programs or projects requiring development and consensus surrounding clinical quality improvement.
- Leads the Clinical Support Teams consistent with the principles of Just Culture. Mentors Clinical Support Teams to ensure quality of work, employee satisfaction and career enhancement.
- Develops and oversees the Clinical Support Annual Plan which will include the following (as applicable): planned major initiatives accompanied by implementation timelines; plans for serving the different markets including type of educational or professional development activities planned; clinical staff to be served with any educational or professional development opportunities; establishment and update of criteria/education/certification of clinical back office personnel; planned support for new, complex clinics and clinics entering a new care delivery model; and, other goals with metrics and mode of planned accomplishment for clinical projects requiring CSPS support.
- Serves as an active member of appropriate leadership and clinical care DHMF Accountability and Excellence Teams (AET) and Councils to provide expertise in clinical care, evidence-based practice and standardization across the continuum.
- Establishes a role as a subject matter expert and is able to influence and collaborate with committee/team members and key stakeholders. Provides clinical support strategies and updates on a regular basis.
- Oversees on-site clinical assessments, clinical workflow layout, and recommendations for the implementation and success for new clinics/services, acquired clinics and clinics/services entering into a new practice model.
- Oversees Professional Development and Clinical Development activities for all DHMF Clinical Staff throughout California.
- Travels as needed to accomplish goals and maintain strategic business relationships. Estimated travel is 25% on a monthly basis, although travel will fluctuate with business needs.
- Provides strategic oversight and design input for the Professional Development (NEO, NPO, preceptor program, annual skills fair, competencies, etc.); Clinical Development (clinic site visits, survey activities, training, assessments, etc.); to equip staff with sufficient knowledge and skills to provide quality safe care.
- Oversees the development of new and revised policies related to the Clinical Back Office that conform to current standards of nursing practice, ambulatory care best practices, and operational policies while maintaining compliance with state and federal laws and regulations. Service as a subject matter expert and engages teams to ensure standardized approach, consistency and clinical excellence related to creating, revising and training on policies and standard operating procedures. Reviews policy and SOP drafts for accuracy and for consistency with DHMF guidelines.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
+ Masters in Nursing, Healthcare Administration, Business or a related field
+ Clear and current CA Registered Nurse (RN) license.
+ Minimum of four (4) years of progressive experience in healthcare administration with specific leadership in nursing-related disciplines.
+ Minimum of two (2) years of Ambulatory- based experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
+ Certification in Ambulatory Care Nursing, Nursing Leadership, or other related expertise.
+ Seven (7) years’ experience

Pay Range
$68.76 - $99.70 /hour
