The Storage teams build and operate online stateful systems and abstractions that are reliable, efficient, secure and easy to use for DoorDash Engineering. The Event Streaming and Caching teams under Storage are responsible for powering DoorDash’s most latency-sensitive, high-throughput, and mission-critical infrastructure. These systems are foundational to the company’s real-time data movement and ultra-fast data access. The team owns and operates platforms like Kafka, EventBus(internal kafka abstraction), Redis, EntityCache (internal RPC caching system), and Boulder (internal feature store infrastructure), providing reliable and scalable building blocks that support data-driven product experiences across all of DoorDash Engineering.

These systems are Tier 0, their availability directly impacts DoorDash's ability to serve customers and operate the business. As such, the team focuses on low-latency guarantees, operational excellence, and developer ergonomics

In this role, you will guide the development of high-performance, fault-tolerant distributed systems designed for real-time communication and low-latency data access. Your leadership will drive innovation in distributed messaging, pub/sub ecosystem, and caching architecture, enabling engineers across DoorDash to deliver rich, responsive, and scalable applications.

You will report into the Senior Engineering Manager of Storage within the Core Infrastructure Engineering Organization.

You’re excited about this opportunity because you will…

+ Lead, mentor, and grow a team of engineers responsible for Kafka, EventBus, Redis, and in-house caching solutions like EntityCache and Boulder.

+ Drive architectural decisions for scalable event streaming systems and distributed caches used across DoorDash’s core product surfaces.

+ Cultivate deep domain expertise in open source distributed systems, real-time event pipelines, and multi-region cache topologies.

+ Champion operational excellence in incident management, monitoring, and remediation of Tier 0 services.

+ Partner with Storage Orchestration and Core Infrastructure to automate fleet management and improve service reliability.

+ Build, sustain, and grow a diverse team to address the growing needs of the organization.

    We’re excited about you because…

+ You have 5+ years of backend infrastructure experience, including 2+ years leading engineering teams working on distributed systems.

+ Hands-on experience operating and scaling systems like Kafka, Redis, or equivalent open source platforms.

+ Understanding of distributed coordination, backpressure, AZ replication strategies in large-scale systems.

+ Experience leading Tier 0 or business-critical platform services.

+ You excel in technical leadership, providing guidance in architecture decisions, performance improvements, and team growth.

+ You are execution-driven, with a proven ability to deliver large-scale distributed storage solutions in fast-moving environments.
