    SCHEDULE

    FTE: 1.0

     

    Full-time position in the hospital pharmacy. Primary work hours between 7 am and 5 pm. Weekend and holiday rotation required. 80% of time will be allocated to 340B and inventory management. 20% of time will be allocated to other pharmacy operations.

    PRIMARY FUNCTIONS

    Responsible for managing hospital pharmacy inventory, including both regular and 340B inventory. Ensures 340B program is compliant with all regulations. Assists with operational activities of the pharmacy team.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    + Inventory Management

    + Manage all aspects of inventory control and purchasing for the hospital pharmacy.

    + 340B Program Management

    + Maintains the 340B program with accuracy and precision.

    + Provides oversight and audit of inventory related functions to ensure compliance with the 340B program.

    + Monitors 340B program effectiveness through facilitation of data collection and reporting.

    + Maintains and reviews 340B Program policies and procedures on an ongoing basis and provide updates as appropriate to ensure ongoing 340B compliance.

    + Perform audit function to ensure adherence to 340B program guidelines and regulations and compliance with 340B program requirements for qualified patients, drugs and locations.

    + Monitor and audit state Medicaid claims to ensure compliance to prevent potential duplicate discount rebates.

    + Maintains third party administrator (split-billing) software.

    + Develops and fosters working relationships with internal working counterparts to facilitate productive exchanges of information to improve program efficiency and promote program compliance.

    + General

    + Takes direction from the pharmacists and/or pharmacy manager with respect to daily workflow and patient care responsibilities.

    + Collaborates with members of inter-professional team, payers, pharmacies, patients, and families to promote timely access to medications.

    + Participates in educational, training and competency programs for oneself and other members of pharmacy team.

    + Answers the telephone, identifying self and department; directs calls to appropriate personnel.

    + Maintains accurate and appropriate records in accordance with related procedures, as required.

    + Keeps pharmacy areas clean, neat, and well-organized; keeps pharmacy equipment clean.

    + Compounding

    + Assists pharmacists in preparation of sterile and non-sterile products including, but not limited to, compounds and I.V. preparations using approved procedures and techniques.

    + Pharmacy Operations

    + Fills and replenishes medication carts/trays/kits/automated dispensing cabinets and patient-specific cassettes/bins as directed.

    + Assists in operations and maintenance of automated dispensing cabinets, as needed.

    + Delivers medications and supplies to patient care and ancillary areas.

    + Repackages bulk medications in unit-dose packages per established procedures and techniques.

    + Audits department records, conducts inspections, and promotes compliance with hospital, state and federal regulations as directed by a pharmacist or manager.

    + Assists in ordering, receiving, unpacking, storing, maintaining and disposing medications and supplies per approved operational policies.

    + Assists in purchasing and inventory optimization, as required.

    + Retrieves unused or expired medication from patient care areas and returns items to stock or segregates items for disposal, as appropriate.

    + Performs related duties as required.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    + Education, Experience, and Training

    + Must be a graduate of an accredited Pharmacy Technician program and certified as a Pharmacy Technician.

    + Related pharmacy technician experience is required; 340B experience is highly desirable.

    + Ability to learn and navigate computer systems including the online training modules, the employee timesheet and the performance appraisal system. Job specific systems are also required.

    + Must have strong communication skills, both written and oral.

    + Must be able to read, speak, and write fluently English.

    + Physical Requirements

    + Sitting – Approximately 50% of shift.

    + Standing – Approximately 20% of shift.

    + Walking – Approximately 30% of shift.

    + Lifting – Up to 30 lbs.

    + Twisting – Not a requirement.

    + Bending – Infrequent.

    + Squat/Kneel – Infrequent.

    WORK ENVIRONMENT

    + May come in contact with hazardous chemicals or treatment modalities.

    + The possibility exists of exposure to communicable disease due to working in a healthcare environment.

    + Involvement in patient care may result in unavoidable work-related illnesses.
