Recruitment: The State Highway Administration is currently recruiting for a Transportation Engineering Technician I position located in Anne Arundel County. This is an Interview and Hire position that is open to anyone who meets the minimum qualifications listed below. This job announcement may be used for future vacancies throughout the state of Maryland.

Nature of Work:The main purpose of this position is to assist the Pavement Marking Management team in the collection of condition data on roadway pavement markings using a Mobile Retro-reflectometer (MRU). This includes but is not limited to, being the primary driver of the MRU, assisting in the assembly/removal and mounting/detaching of the MRU from the vehicle, assisting with data collection through using the Microsoft Surface Pro, and assisting with Data extraction and upload into the Roads & Highways database systems. Secondary expectations included but are not limited to, entering state-wide data into the Roads & Highway System from field testing and collection of pavement markings for the Pavement Marking Management Team within the Structural Materials and Pavement Markings Division, to input data into the Pavement Marking Management System (PMMS) database to be used as a tool to ensure that MD SHA’s pavement markings meet the required safety and condition standards throughout the life of the roadway Pavement Markings and participate in the correct processing and filing procedures for Pavement Marking documents received from the districts. This position will assist with the investigation of new equipment and methods for data collection that improve the efficiency, accuracy, and safety of the data collection process.

Qualifications
Education: Graduation from a standard high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
Experience: None.
Preferred Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will possess the following:
+ Experience in the use of Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and/or Access.
+ Data entry experience.
+ Experience in performing field data collection, data review & analysis, or construction inspection & testing.
+ Ability to drive long distances and for long periods daily
+ Knowledge of the principles of basic mathematics and ability to perform basic mathematical computations
+ Basic knowledge and use of computers and ability to learn basic functions on computer and keyboard
+ Ability to communicate effectively with individuals and in a team setting
+ Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the general public
Licenses & Certifications
Candidates must possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the state of Maryland.
