Minimum Qualifications
Eligibility for a Louisiana Engineer Intern Certificate.
NOTE:
This is a temporary position to be utilized while the incumbent is securing a Louisiana Engineer Intern certificate. Permanent status shall be denied to incumbents occupying this position.

Job Duties and Other Information
JOB DUTIES
+ Conducts and writes traffic-engineering reports in response to requests from the general public, state legislators, city and parish officials for traffic studies concerning speed limits, highway geometry, accidents, work zones, school zones, signs and pavement markings. Geometric studies include left and right turn lanes, channelizing islands, ramp widening, and urban continuous turn lanes. Sign studies include regulatory signs, warning signs, guide signs, recreational signs, and work and school zone signs. Pavement marking studies include no passing zones, center line and edge line striping, reflective markers, islands, delineators and object markers. Investigates study location and compiles pertinent information. Examines all data and facts about the site. Required to produce computer-generated drawings. Applies engineering knowledge and follows Departmental policies to make recommendations to the District Traffic Operations Engineer.
+ Conducts and writes traffic engineering reports in response to requests from the general public, state legislators, city and parish officials for new traffic signals (or flashing beacons) and modifications to existing traffic signals. For new traffic signals, directs engineering technicians to gather traffic volume data and site conditions. Examines all data, traffic control and facts concerning the site. Analyzes traffic data and factors such as volumes, delays, and accidents to determine the need for a traffic signal. If a signal is warranted, administers traffic analysis computer programs to produce optimal signal timings and furnishes traffic signal designs for installation. For modifications, such as timing, phasing sequence and turn lanes, directs engineering technicians to gather traffic movement volume data and intersection layout. Examines all data and facts about the site. Determines optimum timings for the coordination of traffic signal systems. Applies engineering knowledge and follows Departmental policies to make recommendations to the District Traffic Operations Engineer.
+ Consults with other sections of the Department regarding traffic engineering matters in District 02. Reviews and makes recommendations regarding traffic engineering matters in design plans, construction projects and access permits to ensure compliance with State policies and regulations, and accepted engineering practices. Gathers information to respond to legal matters. Provides customer service to the public. Receives and responds in a professional manner to traffic related requests from telephone calls, office visits, e-mails, meetings and mail. Performs additional duties to ensure the smooth and efficient operation of the District 02 Traffic Operations Unit.
+ Manages and operates the District’s Advanced Traffic Management Systems equipment such as fog warning devices, Changeable Message Signs, cameras and traffic flow detectors. Assists in the operation and maintenance of closed loop traffic signal systems. Attends required training classes and receives on-the-job training in performing traffic studies and working with new technologies. May also provide on-the-job training or assistance to newer or lower level technicians.

The maximum salary for the Engineer 5 is $126,256. Engineer 3– Special Entrance Rate (SER) $33.39/hourly
Engineer 4– Special Entrance Rate (SER) $36.90/hourly
Engineer 5 – Special Entrance Rate (SER) $39.48/hourly

Engineer 3-5 Possession of a current Louisiana license to practice professional engineering
