    Position Overview:

    Provides Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT) and/or Diabetes Self-management Education/Training (DSMT). Exercises sound judgment and developed clinical skills to implement the patient's plan of care based on the diagnosis in a timely manner. Gains confidence and cooperation from the patient, their family/support group, and other healthcare providers through competent patient assessment, attentive monitoring and care, and effective communication. Adheres to all local/state/federal regulations, codes, policies, and procedures to ensure privacy and safety while delivering optimal patient care.

     

    **Job Description** :

    JOB ACCOUNTABILITIES:

    NUTRITIONAL SERVICES.

     

    + Adheres to department policies and procedures, the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics/Commission on Dietetic Registration Code of Ethics, and the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Scope and Standards of Practice.

    + May provide Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT) utilizing the nutrition care process including nutrition screening, assessment, reassessment and education/counseling.

    + May provide Diabetes Self-Management Education/Training (DSM/T).

    + May participate in interdisciplinary rounds, case conferences, team conferences and/or family meetings.

    + May provide nutrition information to health professionals and the community.

    + May precept dietetic interns and dietary manager students.

    + Collaborates with the interdisciplinary team, referring to other team members as needed to optimize care.

    + Ensures that routine and priority tasks are completed within established departmental time frames.

     

    CLERICAL.

     

    + Performs general clerical tasks, such as answering phones; updating patient appointments; or retrieving, entering, and revising patient electronic health records (EHR).

    + Documents in the EHR all patient care provided.

     

    SAFETY.

     

    + Maintains a clean, neat, and safe working environment.

    + Reports safety concerns to supervisor promptly.

    + Protects self and others by adhering to infection prevention policies and procedures.

     

    COMPLIANCE.

     

    + Maintains strictest confidence of all protected health information (PHI) and protects all PHI from accidental, intentional, or inappropriate disclosure.

    + Provides quality care in compliance with department standards, policies, and procedures, as well as local, state, and federal regulatory agencies to deliver the highest level of patient privacy and care.

    + Maintains RD/RDN registration and completes mandated continuing education requirements to meet facility and regulatory agencies accreditation requirements.

    + Participates in department Quality Assurance/Performance Improvement and patient satisfaction activities.

    + Demonstrates compliance with other department and organization requirements and responsibilities.

    EDUCATION:

    Completion of an accredited degree program and a supervised practice program accredited by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics.

    CERTIFICATION & LICENSURE:

    RD-Registered Dietitian/RDN-Registered Dietitian Nutritionist

     

    Or, if eligible to sit for the registration examination for dietitians, must pass within 90 days of hire.

    TYPICAL EXPERIENCE:

    2 years recent relevant experience

    SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE** **:

    Provides complex care using a strong understanding of human anatomy, pathophysiology, pharmacology, laboratory results, and medical terminology.

     

    Excellent written and verbal communications skills to explain sensitive information clearly and professionally to diverse audiences, including non-medical people.

     

    Well-developed time management and organizational skills, including the ability to prioritize assignments and work within standardized operating procedures to achieve objectives and meet deadlines.

     

    General knowledge of computer applications, such as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook) and electronic health records (EHR).

    Ability to:

    + Interpret a variety of data and instructions, furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

    + Prioritize assignments and work within standardized policies and procedures to achieve objectives and meet deadlines.

    + Work autonomously, as well as part of the team, including accomplishing multiple tasks in an environment with interruptions.

    + Identify, evaluate, and resolve standard problems by selecting appropriate solutions from established options. Ensure the privacy of each patient’s protected health information (PHI).

    + Build collaborative relationships with peers and other healthcare providers to achieve departmental and corporate objectives.

    + Compassionately and effectively interact with patients and staff with diverse ages, backgrounds, cultures, values, beliefs, and behaviors.

    + Retain and apply new knowledge and skills.

    Pay Range is $52.20 to $67.86 / hour

     

    _The salary range for this role may vary above or below the posted range as determined by location. This range has not been adjusted for any specific geographic differential applicable by area where the position may be filled. Compensation takes into account several factors including but not limited to a candidate’s experience, education, skills, licensure and certifications, department equity, training and organizational needs. Base pay is just one piece of the total rewards program offered by Sutter Health. Eligible roles also qualify for a comprehensive benefits package._ _​_
